Editorial review from Citysearch 6/30/2012

Had dinner at the Thirsty Marlin downtown Palm Harbor last week!! What a fantastic place!! My wife and I both had the Grouper Atlantis and our daughters had kids meals. Our server, David M. was extremely polite, friendly, prompt and entertaining. He got the kids meals out quickly and shortly after, our meals. He recommended the Chocolate Marlin dessert which was SO good!! I would recommend the Thirsty Marlin to everyone that wants to enjoy fantastic food at great prices. What a fun place with a great staff!! I can tell that the staff enjoys their job which made my family's experience one that we just had to share!! THANK YOU Thirsty Marlin and David M. We will definitely be back!! more

Awful food 12/21/2011

I only gave this two stars because the interior is adequate and there was a guy singing that was good which created a nice atmosphere. The food however..blech. I had the chicken fajitas which was just green bell pepper and onions, no red bell pepper or anything else. Boring, but was worse is that I could taste mold on the green peppers. The black bean/rice side dish was overcooked and the beans were chalky. I couldn't eat them. My husband ordered steak quesadillas which he thought tasted like ground beef. He said they were ""disgusting"" and left most of them on his plate. We won't go back. more

Key West in our back yard! 9/28/2011

This place is so much fun we didnt want to leave! First we had a few tropical drinks at the bar the we got a table outside near the band. Then we got the fried green tomatoes and they were awesome! I got the king crab that was so sweet it melted in my mouth I didnt even need butter! My wife got the bacon wraped scallops that were also very good. Then we both got frozen mudsides for desert! Best meal we have ever had. more

LOVE THIS PLACE! Great place for large groups. We had a girls night out and thought we would start at the marlin for dinner then go out after, but we NEVER left! All 20 of us loved our food we orderd everything from appetizers, sushi, sandwiches to surf n turf and we all enjoyed our meals. There was a band out back and they were so good we ended up drinking and dancing til midnight! I would highly recomend this place for anyone looking for great food and a great time! more

Oustanding food! 4/11/2011

My boyfriend and I visit here frequently! It is one of our favorite date night places to go! Everytime we go we have to try something different and we have yet to find anything we did not enjoy! My favorite so far is the fresh tasting Grouper Atlantis! It has the perfect mix of shrimp, scallops and crab topped with a delicious hollandaise sauce>> what can beat that! Yum! The service is always quick and friendly. There specials are also awesome and decently priced too! I recomend it to all my friends and family! It""s definitly one of my favorite local seafood places! more

Great experience 6/27/2010

First and foremost, don't let a review sway you from trying something new. Reviews are just that, someones personal opinion. We've been to the Thirsty Marlin in PALM HARBOR (Why do people post reviews for Largo?) many times over the last few years. Every time we've gone we've had a great time. If you're looking for a place to kick back, have some food in a fun environment with plenty of personality and the Floridian feel, this is the place to go! Their Monday night all you can eat crab legs are absolutely delicious. I don't understand these people that had a terrible experience. Were you expecting a fine dining experience? Or were you just not prepared for the cost of your meal? Yeah well not every restaurant goes through the large companies for their product and can sell a burger for a dollar. Try buying local organic meat in any city and you'll notice you're paying for what you get. If you want your cheap food, go back to before the economic decline or check out the local fast food! Bottom line, they've got good food, great variety, great daily specials, an environment, everything. They've got it all. Just don't go here if you're looking for a quiet place to grub. This place is meant for ENJOYMENT. You get what you put into it. Pros: Variety, personality, friendly, fun Cons: Negative reviews -- don't listen, try it for yourself more

awesome sushi 4/25/2010

We go to the marlin every monday night for all you can eat crab legs and $1 sushi, the crab legs come out fresh and hot, never have to wait for more, and the sushi is the best around and only a dollar!!! We always sit at the bar to eat and watch the suhi guys, Tom the bartender always keeps are drinks full. Pros: great service, incredible value more

I'm Surprised!! 2/27/2010

WOW... I'm surprised by the negative reviews. My husband and I have been going to Thirsty Marlin since it opened 9 years ago. We love the atmosphere and the food is alway great! Reminds me of Key West back-in-the-day. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion so please try it for yourself. We love it there. Pros: Wide selection of dishes Cons: Sometimes too crowded more

GREAT FOOD, FUN ATMOSPHERE 2/10/2010

My wife and I first ate at the Largo location just as a drive by find. We had an outstanding meal, great service-that we had to try Palm Harbor. However this time we brought over 20 friends and family! We booked our reservation with Mike Flowers- he was so wonderful and helpful! He offered to even set us up outside on the patio if we wanted to. We ordered 10 different appetizers- ALL of them came out excellent, no-superb! The tuna was perfectly cooked to RARE! The blackend grouper nuggets were greatly seasoned. Lobster & Prime Rib Quesadillas were cooked to perfection. We then ordered dinners and sandwiches for our meals! I just read a negative comment about a soft shell crab sandwich- WOW- that was wonderful!! I expected the whole crab-as that is how it is supposed to come! The server was great at suggestions too! The Thai Chicken Wrap was outstanding, my friends and family had such a GREAT time and ENJOYED EVERY bite that they ate! Dessert- Key lime pie, Fried Cheesecake, and the Chocolate Cake- mouth watering!!! We had such a wonderful experience that I have booked a once a month business networking meeting here! Mike Flowers helped put it together and I can't wait to come back! Thank you Mike for a WONDERFUL dining experience!! I suggest this and the Largo restaurant to everyone!! You made all my friends and family fans for sure, it won't be the last time you see us!! Pros: FRESHEST SEAFOOD IN TOWN!!! Cons: the negative comments people left!!! more

Best Seafood We Have Found in Tampa Area 2/10/2010

We just moved to the Tampa area a few months ago and have tried many seafood restaurants and this is the best. They not only offer the bar type food (wings-burgers-fries-onion rings) but also the hard to find (fried green tomatoes-cracked conch-tuna Sashimi). They also have great sushi Pros: Best Seafood on West Coast Cons: None we found more

FANTASTIC place to eat 2/10/2010

We and our friends have been eating at The Thirsty Marlin for over 8 years, as late as last week, loving it all the time. Pros: Old Florida Cracker House Restaurant Cons: Place is always busy - if that is a con! more

Terrible Experience 2/9/2010

We had terrible food and service. Manager could care less when we voiced our concerns and complaints. Pros: none...would not return Cons: bad food and bad managment more

Stuck up 2/9/2010

For many years it was easy money. Now the consumer is demanding. The food is D grade the owners are lazy and don't expect much from there employees or vendors. Largo may be the location that gets these guys gone so we can get a real restaurant at this location instead of a meat market.there website is a joke, they used to have good food. No more more

WE WONT GO BACK !!! 1/5/2010

one word sums it up... TERRIBLE.... Expensive Overpriced Bar type food at Upscale Dining Prices... and what made it worse management (the owner himself) just doesnt care. we thought we spoke to a manager and found out it was an owner. russ something or other. well folks scratch this one off your list unless you want to pay Salt Rock Grill price for Hootes food... no sorry Hooters is far better for less money... service was good at least ... too bad the food quality and management isnt as good as the servers. Pros: the end of the meal and leaving Cons: Expensive Bar Food more

great place to get drunk 7/4/2009

just don't eat there Pros: good booze Cons: bad food, high prices more

NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE 4/25/2009

This was the Largo location on West Bay Drive. We eat at every place possible in Pinellas county. 2 to 4 times a week. Heard The Thirsty Marlin was good. Decided to give it a try. The wait staff were prompt and friendly, the place was clean and the ambience nice. The food was mediocre at best. Ordered a soft shell crab sandwich which to unbeknownst to me, it came out as a ""whole"" crab on an onion roll. I did not want this at all, offered to pay for it (which they gladly let me) and ordered a cuban sandwhich in it's place. The Cuban was not at all indicitive of an authentic cuban. Castro would have shot the man who made it. My wife ordered a Ahi Sensation Tuna sandwich. Ordered it rare, rare, rare, in which it came out medium-well to very-well. Not impressed at all with the food. Everything was just so-so. Not worth the price. Would not recommend or go back. Much better food at Bonefish or Rumba. Pros: Ambience, wait staff Cons: Food more
