My favorite haunt (especially on Friday nights) when living in San Pedro (L.A. Harbor) from 2007-2011 was the Whale & Ale British Pub & Restaurant. I still make a point of droppin...

If you want something unique to do, pop on down to the quaint Whale and Ale British Pub! I recently discovered this diamond in the rough and was pleasantly surprised at what it has to offer. On Friday evenings it seems you never know what to expect in the entertainment department! The piano player is always there and any one of his many musical friends might show up. It's really fun to see Harry the 96 year-old violin player do his thing. Meanwhile a trumpet player may do a tune, a singer might do a song and a guitar man may jump in there too. Sometimes it's a full-on jam! more

Our favorite hang-out!!! 2/29/2012

I have gone several times. I love the area blocks from the water. We go for the friends we have met there and the great food. I had the lamb salad. it is something you can not find on just any menu. Great English food! more

Best food of its kind in the area. I've never had a bad meal or a bad drink here. They have great music and holiday specials and the owners and wait staff are really, really nice. Just great! The Whale and Ale is one of those places, like Cheers, where\r everyone knows your name. The food is good, the decor is perfect\r and you feel all warm and cozy just walking in.\r Perfect pub dinners include Shepard's Pie and Bangers and Mash.\r They have the BEST house salad and now even sell the dressing\r by the bottle. Authentic style english pub - would return! 1/29/2007

Reminded me of pubs in England (although, of course, I'm not a Brit so I might not be the best judge - I did spend three months in London, though). I ordered a snakebite (half beer, half cider) and it tasted authentic. The food was also really good as was the service. I would definitely return, great atmosphere too! Had the most delicious dinner..Beef Wellington was delicious!!! As was the Rack of Lamb!! Service was great..we had the nicest waitress. She was very helpful...champagne and dessert were also most enjoyable. It was a perfect evening! more

Authentic British Pub 7/5/2006

A San Pedro classic, this is a great resturant and the moment you enter you feel like you are in a country British pub. Food is excellent, the owner Andrew welcomes all the guests, has local musical entertainment on weekends and first Thursdays. Whoever says English food is bland has not been to The Whale and Ale, or for that matter, England! PROS: Authentic decor, excellent food and ambiance, nice place to relax CONS: None more

FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE GREAT FOOD 2/9/2006

Last week, my parents were in town and were very impressed with our 'little treasure' of a find in the Whale & Ale. They have been to London many a time, and were quite impressed with the whole experience, of their visit to our favorite San Pedro restaurant. Over the past few years, we've enjoyed many a wonderful evening of dining at this unique establishment, from intimate dinners for two to our rather large family group of 12!! You can always count on being greeted by the owner Andrew, with warmth and a genuine expression of care and gratitude. Wait staff is always ready to ensure you have a great meal.
