Best

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!

Worst

The rooms are very subpar, if you're in your early twenties and looking for a party hotel, this is it. If you're looking for the comforts of a nice hotel, this is definitely not ...

Hip, trendy rooftop hotel bar, but it's always crowded on the weekend. Sometimes they have private parties and you're not allowed to go on the top... more

anyone else amused that this is deemed a budget hotel by editors of citysearch? 3/22/2007

I don't know...when I think of budget hotels, I think cheap. I think not-the-comfiest. I don't think upscale, ritzy, charge you up the wazzoo hotels whose only similarity to a budget is the fact that they self-identify as ""the standard."" Not that you shouldn't stay here. The rooms are artful and creatively designed. The bar on the roof is a definite scene. The drinks are tasty and the pool is warm. But budget? Let's get real... Pros: sleek and sophisticated Cons: expensive, unprofessional at times more

Trendy, quality hotel 2/27/2007

When assigned to a client in downtown L.A. for three weeks I had to choose between the regular (boring) hotels or the Standard. Worked out a deal with the reservation department (discounted rate for a ""huge"" category room). more

Downtown Nightlife 2/20/2007

I went only to the rooftop bar/dancefloor for a friend's birthday, and I really liked it. The art-deco furniture was very fitting with the whole cityscape environment, and the view of Downtown LA was pretty amazing. The best part I would have to say, is the water-bed spheres that you can bounce around in after having a few drinks. more

fun, comfortabe, wonderfully friendly 1/25/2007

I don't get the reviews saying the service is rude or pretensious. everyone has been so incredibly nice. the rooms are a welome departure from what you probably have at home. the party at the bar is fun without being to pretensious. and againt he service has been great. they've remembered my name, always been pleasant and helpfull. more

Great Atmosphere 11/4/2006

This place is beautiful but can be difficult to get into. There is a lot of the typical LA BS but if you try to go early or on the weekdays, you will be able to enjoy this great place. The best thing about it is that the DJ is always a GIRL!!!! more

you cant go wrong.. 10/26/2006

this is such a great place to go just to get away for a night. i live in santa monica, but sometimes we just stay the night (so cheap) and feel like we are away in a big city. Pros: cheap more

A L.A Must!! 8/8/2006

Everyone who is an out-of-towner must come see this hotel! I've partied here before on the rooftop but had the awesome opportunity to stay here! I loved the rooftop and the view of downtown skycrapers! Can't beat that! The floor to ceiling glass shower is by far the best part of the rooms, along with their comfortable beds & pillows. Just be aware of the blinds, make sure they're down otherwise you'll have a peeping tom across the way! Pros: Shower, pillows, friendly valet Cons: crowded, noisy but it is a party hotel more

SUPERB Service... 7/25/2006

I decided to stay at the Standard Downtown despite the reviews I read in regards to poor service (especially at the rooftop bar). I have never before had such a pleasant surprise! It FAR exceeded my expectations! Not only did I absolutely love the hotel itself, every single staff member that I encountered went above and beyond to make my experience perfect! Even after my trip itself turned sour, the staff, who I came to know by name after several days, made the stay so much more enjoyable. To name a few speicfically... at the front desk Phillip (""Flip"") was so sweet and truly helpful. Dallas, who brought my room service to me every night, was a DOLL! Just the sweetest thing! And last but absolutley not least Rodney, a bartender from the rooftop bar was FABULOUS!! I had to spend the last two days of my trip alone, in a strange city that I had never before visited, and he was so kind and helpful to me. It's been over a month since my stay and these three in particular still stand out so much in my head that it is worth mention. So often we hear when someone has done wrong and we're all so quick to complain. This time, I'd like them to know that they were wonderufl and my trip would not have been 1/2 as good had I not met them! They maintained a professional manner, but added a personal touch. Above and beyond. Besides those three.... the rest of the staff was superb as well. I appreciate the effort immensely. Pros: Rodney, Flip, Dallas more

the best view in LA.. 7/6/2006

the standard is def. a fun LA weekend getaway -- i came here for a romantic weekend (random, but WAY cheaper than the bel air hotel or other more traditional choices) and we had a great time. the room is fun in a fancy-sleazy 70's kind of way, there's yummy room service and the rooftop bar is rad. more

Huge rooms 6/6/2006

We got upgraded to a huge room upon check it and it had a great view of downtown. The hotel is a fun place to stay if you want to enjoy the rooftop bar (which gets packed on the weekends). more

Staff are jerks 4/5/2006

The title says it all. I think it's a prerequisite for working here; only complete A-holes need apply. I've stayed here 4 times, swearing that I wouldn't again each time, but it's actually a fun place otherwise. So, if you can get over the overly rude staff, then you'll have fun. Great rooftop bar and pool! Better deal than the Mondrian. Pros: bar, pool Cons: Staff, Staff, Staff more

The W on acid! 3/4/2006

Everything about The Standard is funky. The rooms, the items in the minibar and the waterbeds in the bar on the roof. People keep saying it is overpriced. Where do you normally stay? Super 8? The Standard 's room rates are very reasonable. Pros: bar scene, fun, people watching Cons: valet problems, valet problems, valet problems more

User review by cs112_erb34 10/1/2005

In our stay at the Standard we were blown away, but also it is everything that you think about LA all packaged up into one building. It is like a circus, with really plastic, really beautiful people walking around in various looks of clothes. It is a really cool place, but also weird all at the same time. The room was very minimal, I had envisioned something different. Our favorite thing was the bed. It was huge and very comfortable. Also, in the Huge rooms the shower was really cool; in the middle of the room. Over all the room was pretty cool, but the staff at the hotel left something to be desired. With the exception of the front desk staff, everyone else would not even look us in the eye. It was a little strange to talk to someone wihtout them ever looking up, but hey its LA. Pros: Unusual Furniture, Minimalistic, Showers & Tubs Cons: Snotty People more

The Party is Amazing ... The Staff isn't 9/4/2005

The Standard Downtown's rooftop bar has breathtaking views of the surrounding highrises, a lighted pool, a fireplace, and waterbeds where guests can mingle amongst the crowd or find an intimate nook. A limited number of wristbands are issued to the roof, which means it doesn't get too crowded. That said, wristbands can be hard to come by, unless you are a guest at the hotel. Special room features included a CD player, a well-stocked mini bar, and large, sexy bathroom layouts. Old movies are projected onto the building next door and can be watched through some room's windows. Great for: romance, party, views of the city. Downsides: Most of the staff, particularly reception and security, weren't particularly friendly or helpful. Drinks are expensive. Show up early to get wristbands, they go fast. After midnight, you cannot get up to the top (even if you have a wristband). Pros: Atmosphere, Not Crowded, Par-tay Cons: Expensive Drinks, Unfriendly Staff more

hip, cool, and comfortable 7/31/2005

just a fun, playful, and beautiful place. the upstairs bar is amazing. the food is great. the scene crazy and ecclectic. some velvet ropes but worth the wait, and if your staying at the hotel, not a problem... more

Sub-Par Service and Room, Very cool bar 7/3/2005

The rooms are very subpar, if you're in your early twenties and looking for a party hotel, this is it. If you're looking for the comforts of a nice hotel, this is definitely not the place. No vending machines in the hotel, ice maker did not work, and cheap rooms. The service was lacking. The valet took the key, made us aware of the $25/day parking, and left, no help with bags or even directions on how to get into the hotel. The bar is definitely very hip looking, and attracts quite the crowd. But, be prepared to take your wallet, as the bar is definitely expensive. Drinks average around $10 each. If you're looking for a non-smoking room, be prepared to spend an extra $40/night...the standard room is only available in smoking... Overall, skips the hotel, visit the bar... Pros: Cool Bar Cons: Expensive Drinks, Low Quality Rooms, Poor Service more

Great party scene; not so great hotel 5/11/2005

This hotel is worth visiting for the rooftop bar scene alone. The rooms themselves are a different story altogether. Rooms come equipped with virtually no amenities (shampoo and soap were thrown in, but that's about it). There is no wall dividing the bathroom from the bedroom; there's just a glass barrier. Now on paper I'm sure this seems sexy and glamorous -- and as far as the shower is concerned, that's fine. But a single glass wall for the entire bathroom, toilet and all? Not very practical. Definitely not for the modest. Pros: Great rooftop bar, Hot Party Scene, Cool Design Cons: Substandard rooms, Glass bathrooms, Overpriced more

Great Place 2/9/2004

Stayed here while on business, all other co-workers did the usualy coroporate hotel chains but they wanted to hang out with me at the Standard! Awesome tubs, great big towels, spacious rooms and the bars and lobby areas are great. If you like to party while on business I suggest you stay here. Not for the over 40 crowd unless you are hip and with it. Stock up on the redbull you will need it in the morning! Pros: lobby/bar/nightclub, tub, minibar selections more

I really enjoy this hotel 2/2/2004

The downtown Standard is a great hotel. Valet, bar drinks, room service, and the restaurant can be a little pricey, but the room rates are relatively low so it balances out. The decor of the hotel is very cool and the rooms are very modern. And while the reception staff are not overly friendly, they have always been cordial and professional. We often go to the Rooftop Bar and the bartenders, wait staff, and security team are always good to us. One thing to note though is that this definitely seems like a party hotel (at least on the weekends). Every time we've stayed, there are always many parties going on in the rooms around us. We don't mind this at all though and if you don't either, then definitely stay there. It is a ton of fun! Pros: Great rooftop bar, Cool modern rooms, Good music Cons: , Valet is $25 a night more
