Best

Il Palio has changed since the last time we were here back in the fall. I love the new floors and walls. The menu is more approachable and less expensive. My friends and I had ...

What's the fuss? The setting was formal to the point of pretentious, the service was slow, and the food was mediocre. Tomato and homemade ricotta sald was bland and undistinguis...

Don't Go 12/21/2002

I will never go back. I went for my wife's birthday, and we had very poor service, and the food was cold and undercooked. The waitress never told us what the specials were. It was a miserable experience for the $200 bill! I wrote a letter to the manager, and explained our discontent. I didn't want anything in return, but just wanted to let them know of the problem. I also asked them to call me concerning the problem. Never once did they try to contact me. If I had the reputation that they had, I would have followed up. Don't go. Go to Magnolia Grill or Elaine's instead. more

Melts in your mouth 11/13/2002

I would HIGHLY recommend the gorgonzola walnut ravioli; it has got to be one of the best, if not THE best dish that I have ever had! I did go once, however, and made the mistake of not ordering it...I was disappointed. I am alarmed that I did not see it on their web site menu...it would be a HUGE mistake if they took it off. more

Give your money to charity! 10/24/2002

This has got to be the most over rated eatry ever. When you walk in the decor is striking. Then it's down hill from there. Go to Hardee's if you want a $6.00 burger for $3.95. Come here if you want a dinner for $45.00 worth $7.95. more

And the Winner Is.... 10/14/2002

I've eated at Il Palio and I think that this restaurant belongs in Heaven. I get so tired of reading these reviews, please see for yourself...If your looking for a romantic, upper class excuse to leave reality and live a life of Luxury, take your Wife, Girlfriend or date here. Simply the best, the fact that they won so many awards says it best. Pros: romantic, good service, elegant Cons: expensive, smaller servings more

Huh? 10/14/2002

The food is greatly over-rated fpr the price. I can think of several country cafes in Tuscany that were superior to Il Palio and cost less than $50 for two people with wine. In the southeast, try Il Cortile Del Re in Charleston, SC for great Italian food. more

Yum Yum 10/5/2002

I totally believe in using rating systems. I use it all the time and you can be sure if I have a good time or a bad time, I will let it be known. This establishment is outstanding! Being single and searching for the mate for life, this is one place that I do not mind going to alone or in pursuit. Can be pricey but worth the wait and the taste! more

Not for Brunch 9/10/2002

My husband and I took a friend from out of town for brunch. Altough the food they served was very good it is not a traditional brunch. All the entrees were lunch based and non were breakfast, no omlets, no benedict. The staff was a bit on the snooty side but it's easily overlooked. If you like all lunch food for brunch, this is the place for you! Pros: good food, popular Cons: expensive, snootie staff more

simply the best 9/9/2002

this is the triangle's best restaurant hands-down. it's excellent gourmet food, great service, gorgeouos atmosphere. it competes with the best of them. more

A Feast For The Eyes & Stomach 9/6/2002

Il Palio clearly exudes greatness, not only through its location in the Siena Hotel, but also in its food offerings and professional presentation. The attentive waitstaff makes any occassion special. Consistently good food and ambiance makes Il Palio a ""can't miss"" on the culinary map of the Triangle. Pros: Ambiance, Presentation, Waitstaff Cons: Price, Conservative Menu more

No carpaccio, but great. 8/16/2002

The food is wonderful. The rosemary olive oil with bread is wonderful.. Less wonderful, the tables do not have that ""romantic private"" feel that darker lighting and booths would provide. But it's not noisy, like 411West/518/Macaroni Grill. Pros: premium ingredients Cons: tables, not booths more

Fantastic! 8/9/2002

This restaurant has not only wonderful food, but the staff are beyond helpful. They will go out of their way to make the meal more enjoyable for you. Il Palio is excellent for any special occasion. more

Make Me Feel Special 8/8/2002

Special. That's exactly how I feel each time I dine at Il Palio. I've enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner, & late night dessert and nightcap and always leave pleased to the max. The staff is the finest and the food never disappoints. Personally, I love all the attention. I'm a native of N.C. and have never found the same combination of quality food and service anywhere in the state. It's the FIRST place I recommend when asked ""Where's a nice place to take someone special for dinner?"" Their consistency is priceless. Pros: bar much too small, the staff!, dining in the veranda Cons: valet parking needed more

simply elegant 8/5/2002

For a wonderfully romantic evening, you cannot go wrong with Il Palio. The service is second to none and the fare exceptional. It is amazing that we could sit through a 2 hour dining experience and not look at our watches--at all! Don't let the price of the meal stop you from going...everything is impeccable! For a special treat stay overnight at the Sienna after your meal! more

worth trying 7/30/2002

The food is excellent and the menu is varied so you have a lot to choose from. Don't miss dessert! The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic diner. Worth experiencing, but be prepared to pay A LOT for it. Overall it's a pretty good restaurant but I'm not too sure the price is completely justified. Pros: nice decor Cons: very expensive more

Huh? 6/23/2002

The restaurant business in the triangle is a joke. Please go to New York or Milan and eat in those out of the way, sometimes frumpy looking places to find out what good food is and your eyes will be opened. High price does not a good restaurant make! My Osso Bucco was ""bone"" dry. The appetizers were overly seasoned. more

Best Italian-I agree 6/13/2002

This is really the best Italian food you can get in the state maybe even in the country. Well worth the price. This is a gem in Chapel Hill. Pros: tasty, romantic more

Worth it!! 6/11/2002

Everyone deserves a treat! and that is what Il Palio Ristorante is. With an excellent wine and dinner menus and a knowledgeable staff (who are happy to make recommendations) you can not go wrong. Although it is pricey > it should be at the top of your list for celebrating special occassions!! more

A little romance 5/22/2002

This jewel of Chapel Hill offers exquisite food in a calm, dignified atmosphere. Plenty of ambience and well-trained service staff allow you to concentrate on the delights of your dinner companion and on the plate. A grownup's restaurant. more
