Find another apartment complex! Beware 7/19/2011

This is a cold, calculating, corporate run apartment complex out to get every penny they feel they can from their tenants. First thing to be aware of is that in the fine print of the lease - and there are pages of it - they require 60 days formal move out notice and not the standard 30. I almost got caught on this point but was lucky enough to catch this requirement with a day to spare. Those tenants that miss this 60 day requirement can and do get stuck paying an extra months rent and it is all legal. I filled out the move-in condition form but did not ask for and did not receive a copy, I cleaned the apartment thoroughly and asked if I needed to walk through with anyone. I was told it was not necessary and I could just drop the keys off at the office when done cleaning. Big mistake. They stuck me with a $75 cleaning fee which when I questioned it I was told I cleaned well because they normally charge $200. They charged me $189 to paint the apartment including ceilings because they said it needed it. I did take pictures of the place when I was finished cleaning because of my uneasiness with the near miss of the 60 day move-out notice. I was told by the corporate office that they determination what needs to be done, as stated in the lease, and my pictures were meaningless. They also charged me $115 to resurface the bathroom counter claiming damage. I told them that the only thing wrong with the counter was a discoloration on left side that looked like a staining or material defect that I had seen on move in and remembered noting on the condition form. They said I did not note a stain. I didn't get a copy and regret that now because I believe them capable of anything at this point including altering documents to make more profit or cover a mistake they made. I was told that they routinely charge cleaning unless you submit a receipt from a profession cleaning company. They will and do routinely paint the apartments and charge the tenants when a tenant moves out as they say there is usually some scuffing on the walls and they determine normal wear and tear. It is all legal but not moral. This complex is one of the higher rent apartments for this area so you would expect better - BEWARE!!! more

Awful 6/21/2011

Truthfully, as for my apartment I loved it. It was a great size, looked nice, and was a comfortable place to live. However over the year that I lived there I had 3 natural gas leaks (2 in the stove, 1 in the dryer). After the first leak the maintenance crew (also awful and extremely dumb) brought us a stove from another unit that no one was living in, and guess what that stove was leaking too. So in a general assumption, I would assume if two stoves we had from the complex leaked (and also our upstair neighbors) their are rampant gas leaks all over these buildings (Granted they were not leaking gas at explosive levels at the time.... but overtime those leaks will grow...). They eventually ordered a brand new stove. A few months later yep, smelled the gas again and sure enough the dryer had a gas leak. When you hear about one of these buildings blowing up due to a gas leak, don't be the least bit shocked. The office lady's although nice and pretty, don't know anything. Don't even bother. We moved out a month ago leaving the place cleaner than when we moved in, and just received a bill for $120. When I called the office they made me call some corporate office which is in Washington (therefore having no idea what condition the apartment was left in) and the lady on the phone told me when people move out they have to clean behind the washer, dryer, and stove but yet she still justified it is my job to do it (or pay 120) even though they have to do it anyway before new residents move in. This is also shocking to me because when we moved in the place there was a pair of boxers stuck between the washer and dryer covered in lint. And they are trying to tell me they clean behind these things before residents move in? Also on the subject of moving in, the day we moved in we showed up at 8 (the day our lease started and when the office opened) with our moving truck.... and guess what ""the apartment wasn't ready."" Did we get refunded any money? No. However for all the gas leaks we were eventually credited $100. If you choose to live her it is a nice place as long as you don't have gas leaks, or have to deal with maintenance/ office staff. Lastly, when you move out clean behind all your appliances! more
