My husband and I went to the Schooner 6/4/2012

My husband and I went to the Schooner and Cabana 435 over Memorial Day weekend, and we canâ??t stop telling our friends and family what a great night we had. I hadnâ??t been to the Schooner in about 5 years and I have to say Iâ??m so glad we went back, I didnâ??t recognize the place!!! The restaurant has been remodeled and they have a huge outside bar and back deck with live music on the weekends. One thing that of course is still the sameâ?¦the amazing view! So letâ??s get to the important stuff: Food- the food was A+, we got to talking with our server when we sat down and she had told us they had a new head chef and recommended that we try some of his specials. Wow this isnâ??t the Schooner I had remembered; everything was delicious and so FRESH! To start my hubby had Lobster Bisque and I had crab cakes. He LOVED the soup and the crab cakes were so good with big lumps of crab meat, these were definitely made in house. For dinner my husband the meat eater had a steak that was cooked to a perfect Medium Rare and I had a Chilean Sea Bass that just melted in my mouth. For dessert we split the red velvet cake YUMMY! Service- the bartenders at the bar inside and outside bar very attentive and both made a good drink! The people in the front were very welcoming and were able to get us a nice table by the window. Our server was great she very attentive and didnâ??t rush us at all! After dinner we went outside for drinks at the outside bar and listened a really great band. The night was perfect we actually felt like we were on vacation for a night! Can't wait to go back!!! more

Stay away. Service was O.K. food was horrible, unless you lost your taste buds, don't waste your time. If you do go , you will confirm what I just told you. Seafood was days old and tasted like windex. Meat was leather and the pasta sauce was tasted like acid. more

WTF! 11/16/2011

just left the Schooner restaurant; I was there for the Freeport chamber of commerce fund raiser that took place tonight 11/16/11, that being said I just finished my Boston Market chicken meal.\r I can't speak for a regular night, but during this event I can say the food started late, they were supposed to put out the buffet at 7PM I think it started around 7:15... I decided to wait for the big line to go down a little. I got on line about 7:30-7:40, I waited on a slow moving line till I reached the serving platters and found out that the kitchen ran out of chicken, and they did not know when the food was going to come out. My wife and I left the schooner at 8:16 after standing in the same spot for 20 minutes waiting for food to come out. \r Over all I cannot comment on the food. Because I never got any... \r I was excited because 3 people told me the food was very good. Also, because of the weather tonight the place was not packed out like my friend told me it has been in past years. So in my opinion there should have been more food, or at least faster service.. \r So if you're thinking of going to an event at the schooner, you may want to eat first.\r By the way, I live in Bayshore and drove over 30 minutes to attend this event.\r more

Schooner's NEVER AGAIN! 8/13/2007

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was very over price and very bad.\r We went for my mothers birthday with a group of eight. Everyone ordered something different and no one like their food except for the Chicken with pasta ( which of course is not seafood) it not that hard to destroy the taste of a simple chicken dish. Everyone was sorry we went to schooner restaurant so we all went somewhere else for desert.\r \r Schooner's NEVER AGAIN! Pros: Service was O.K. Cons: Food taste very bad more

Only the best. A++ 1/26/2007

This is, like, one of my favorite restaurants on Long Island. im not kidding. i went in on a tuesday nite w/ 2 friends. we waited for about 10 min so that we could have a window seat. we were sat with a smile!! Servers even made chit chat with us about the weather, bars on the strip, etc. My lobster was great and the chef even cracked it for me in the kitchen!! The appetizer suggested by the waitress was pretty good, not something i would normally order, but good ne way. The tables were cleared by 2 energetic busboys. There was no room for dessert...next time. HIghly recommended!! Pros: friendly staff, great food Cons: n/a more

Great view if you can get seated by the window 10/5/2006

It is horrible on busy nights as the air conditioning is on a timer and it gets hot! We found a hair in our food and The Manager on duty was very unconcerned. High prices after the lunch menu is over. Same old bad bread and watery soup. They need to play soft music or something as there are times when it looks like a bright cafeteria! The food is only good if you have the giant lobster tail or a large lobster. Overpriced and overrated. Pros: Lobsters are decent Cons: Other dishes are overrated and the bathrooms always need attention! more

Oh No! 5/17/2004

Stuffed in the room with birthday and engagement parties in the middle of chaos, we were serenaded with an exaggerated chorus of ""Happy Birthday "" and Congratulations"" many times in an obscenely overcrowded room, when the rest of the restaurant was empty. Garishly loud quartet of waitresses and 2 yearolds everywhere, screaming in tantrums rebelling the overpriced shrimp. Looking at the redundant menu for 10 minutes, we decided on Calamari, Shrimp Scampi, and Seafood Platters- scallops, shrimp, and another unidentifiable white fish. The Bisque was acceptable. The chowder looked less than appetizing, brown stew overflowing in the bowl. I wasnt sure if I ate any calamari, it was too heavily breaded. Perhaps they charged me $7.95 for fried bread and sauce. Shrimp scampi- OK. The seafood platter- uneventful. Fries came from the diner down the block, thats what they looked like anyway. Expensive, flavorless, stone-aged decor, snail-paced service. more
