This is an update. Doc?s Dive is a work in progress and progress is in the works. The transition from local industrial area/ gutter-drunk pub to fun, youthful and entertaining sports bar is in motion. Management is in the process of weeding out the troublesome weeds while working on developing a hip spot to chill and have some fun? and watching the dynamics of that progression is a ?Trip? in an of itself. The day locals are still a mix of unemployed studio workers, struggling gutter drunks, opinionated, patriotic, ?VFW type? know-it-alls, ?All Up In Yer Biz,? and a few others who happened to slither in for whatever contorted and convoluted purpose a place like this serves in their ?Mind?s Eye.? Thankfully, ?Happy Hour? (4-7 pm daily) sees a movement toward some just plain thirsty creatures looking for a cool brew after work at an affordable price, and for a time the focus is thrown off of real people doing real things with a real life; so, for three hours or so, the sorted, sodden souls of the concrete-laden, grayness known as the San Fernando Valley mix it up together and throw ?em down until they are sufficiently numb enough to stop thinking and start feeling. And there is some humor and entertainment in that venue. Want some fun? try playing ?Rap? on the Jukebox when the bar is Saturday and Sunday ?Country.? Or conversely, try playing ?Bluegrass? when the bar is ?Orange County? on the week nights. Not enough fun? Saturday nights are Kar-E-Croak-E after 9 pm? ?Go Elvis!? Some Hollywood Poser Clown even brings in a harmonica and belts out tunes? ?Whoa Nelly!? Fortunately for those not totally genetically challenged, the after 7 pm crowd starts flowing in like a collective breeze of sudden strangeness until there is a logjam of total? ?What the ... jus? happened??? and the local yokels, ?brew-dazed? but otherwise breathing and alive, pull up stakes and head for the barn. ?Beware The Yahoos,? I say! Sometimes there are dart leagues; sometimes there are sporting events on tv; sometimes there is food? but, and I swear on a stack of ?CityBeat?s,? there is never a shortage of social interest, psychological detest bordering upon underlying unrest, sublime philosophical repast? for those so attuned to such frequencies? and what is really important? fairly cheap booze! Go see for yourself, but be forewarned as ?you are about to enter into ?Doc?s City Zoo,? also known as his own personal menagerie and called ?The Scene.?
