The Salty Iguana Mexican Restaurant

We went to the Olathe location and when we walked in we thought this would be a great place to eat Mexican. But we were wrong it is the most plain Mexican food I have ever ate. I think taco bell has more taste. My chips tasted like they came from a bag and the salsa from a jar. We had Pollo chicken and tacos beef and chicken they came with beans and rice. The rice had no flavor and the beans a paste that tasted like it was straight out of the can. My soft taco shells were mushy from sitting on top of the other food. There are a lot better choices out there. Try Mi Ranchito or Jose Peppers they have some flavors you will enjoy. Pros: The decor and service. Cons: The food. more

The Salty Iguana stinks! I went there twice with my boyfriend and it was horrible. The food was so bland, it had no flavor at all. We didn't feel good after both times we ate there. I don't understand why so many people like this place. We're both vegetarians so maybe the flavors in the meat...although three of my friends said the meat had no flavor either. We went originally because we saw the signs, and being from out of town, it sounded fun. We were NOT disappointed. Had a couple of locals tell us it is a nice place, so we went. We have 2 children and a teenager, and it was GREAT for all of us! You get a LOT of food for the prices and the chips and salsa are simply DIVINE! The best I've ever had! The salsa is NOT hot which is a MUST for me, but my teenage son who LOVES spicy salsa also said it was the best he'd ever tasted as well! Service was nice, and they were pretty busy, but we were seated immediately and didn't want for anything. Well, except napkins, but I just asked for them. \r \r It was not a fancy dress up, stuffy restaraunt. It was nice for families, and also great for adults as they served alcohol. I was REALLY impressed and have recommended it to everyone! Pros: great for families, INCREDIBLE chips and salsa, really nice service, our waitress Amber was the BEST! Great food, Great staff, Great atmosphere! This has been a tradition for our girls' night out for over 5 years and we are still loving it! Iguana dip and Margaritas couldn't be better. more

The Salty Iguana is by far the best Mexican food in the area. The Iguana/Queso dip is amazing. Whenever I have a get together I order Salty to go(which is always ready in 15 minutes) and my guests always want to go eat there if they havent before. The Gold Margaritas are very well made especially if the bartender workings name is Lisa. The service is always great and the ambience makes it a lot more exciting than Taco Bell. You are always greeted with a friendly smile from one of the two hostesses always working. Mondays are great for $1.50 taco night, Tuesdays for the kids eat free and Wednesy days for the Fajitas. All around The Salty Iguana gets 5 stars from me. This is not good mexican food! The salsa is too sweet, the margaritas are dull and the food is just blah. The kids menu is really gross, they serve a hotdog wrapped in a roll on a bare plate that I wouldnt give to a dog. Service is frenzied, although wait staff can change from week to week. Lack of effort all the way around. They must be complacent serving the kiddie crowd and serving food with a lack of creativity. However, all is not lost, the salsa is good and if you drink enough margaritas the food and the noise from all the snotlings can be drowned out along with your taste for quality mexican food. While I've only been to this place a couple of times, I've never been impressed. If I wanted cheap, Americanized food I'd eat at Taco Bell. I haven't eaten anything there that I would say is worth a second trip and I only live about 5 minutes from the place. The drinks are okay, but comparable to every other restaurant in Kansas City. I'd say that if I were in the mood for bland, boring, greasy tacos and every other Mexican restaurant in Kansas City were closed, I might choose to eat here. The staff is awesome and the service is faster than any other restaurant. Try the Iguana dip and the Margaritas. If you don't like children, sit in the bar or avoid kids-eat-free night (Tuesday). Monday's are also very busy and full of families because it's taco night (cheap tacos). They have tv's throughout the place, so you can watch sports while you eat or drink.
