    The Condition
Prolapse is a condition where the pelvic organs - uterus, vagina, bladder and rectum are displaced from there normal position due to failure of ligamentous support or weakened tissue. Prolapse can vary in degree from minimal or occasional symptoms to daily, persistent, life altering symptoms. Like other hernias it is nearly always progressive.

    What causes prolapse?
Childbirth and pregnancy are the initial events that over time lead to prolapse and incontinence. Woman who have never been pregnant or given birth are at very low risk for prolapse. Approximately one out of three woman will in there lifetime suffer from prolapse or incontinence. Other risk factors are obesity, repetitive lifting, chronic cough, constipation, lack of estrogen and previous surgery such as hysterectomy.

    What are the symptoms?
Incontinence is the most common and concerning symptom associated with prolapse and often proceeds other prolapse symptoms. Others may first have a sense of bulging, heaviness, pressure or "falling out" sensation. Prolapse of the bladder leads to incomplete bladder emptying resulting in frequent urination, nocturia and urinary tract infections. Less common symptoms include back pain, pain with intercourse and bowel dysfunction.

    How is prolapse managed?

The Da Vinci system allows your surgeon to perform the intricate tasks of surgical repair with magnified 3D vision using tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. As a result Da Vinci surgery offers many benefits over traditional laproscopic or open procedures including: less post-op pain, less blood loss, smaller incisions, shorter hospital stay, quicker return to normal activities and the life you love.. Surgical Procedures:
