Very Unique Experience 1/21/2012

As previous reviews that had something negative to say, the only accurate one thus far would be that this is an experience that take 2 1/2 - 3 hours to enjoy. I would not recommend taking small children, not that I dislike small children ( I have 3 of my own) it is an atmosphere that would be enjoyed better by a couple or group of friends. My husband and I went for my birthday and were sat in a booth behind a wall. It was very cozy and nice and neither of us expected that. The service was friendly and helpful with the menu. We ordered the big night out and the amount if food that was given was well worth it. The best parts were the first course cheese fondue and the last course chocolate desert fondue. The second meat course was also very good and I didnt expect to only have to cook the meat for 2-3 min each peice, I thought it would have to be longer. The next time I would go I would probably go just for the cheese and desert. It is a different and unique experience, I'm glad we went. I would definitley go again on another special occassion. more

What a Big Night Out 10/24/2011

The Melting Pot Exceeded any preconceived expectation or notion that I had about fondue dining. The most surprising part of the meal to me was the amount of food given for two people dining. They without a doubt give you every bit of your monies worth. As full as I was at the end all I could think about was some how finding a way for just a little bit more? Needless to say my wife and I will be regulars from here on out. I have since told all my friends and family to try The Melting Pot out as soon as possible. more

Great Place 3/7/2010

recently dined here with my boyfriend and we loved it!! Great food and great atmosphere!! Pros: great atmosphere more

Wow 9/25/2009

Recently dined with a group of friends, it was partners bday so we decided to do something different. The Melting P*t staff did a great job of making us feel welcome and the food was amazing. Pros: Great Food, Clean Dining more

Romantic and fun 9/25/2009

I recently dined at the Melting P*t with my girlfriend, it was our anniversary and I wanted to make the night really special for her. They definately made that happen, I ordered flowers for the table and they were awesome, they even put a card out for us. Our server Carolyn was great she was friendly and knew a lot about the menu. Kudos to the managers and staff for making a special night even more special than we had anticipated. Pros: Atmoshpere, service and food more

We love it! 9/11/2009

It is better to go here when they aren't busy like early on a saturday on a sunday or during the week. You get a better experience! We love the food. it is a nice treat once in a while...it is a little pricy but it is a nice place to go once in a while! Pros: Unique! Cons: Don't go when it's busy! more

Wonderful evening out! 2/21/2009

We just recently dined at The Pittsburgh MeltingPot to celebrate our anniversary around the Valentine's Holiday. I must say that the staff did a great job and provided outstanding service. It was our first time as it had been somewhere my wife had been wanting to dine for a while. They had roses on the table and arranged for a relatively private table. It was truly a different dining experience that we enjoyed. This is definately an experience restaurant and they do a great job. Everything was delicious and we had an intimate and relaxed dinner. I highly recommend and will return. Keep in mind everything is done tableside and you actually cook your food at the table. Perhaps this is a suprise to some but I guess not much has changed since the 70's when we used to enjoy it. For a fun and intimate evening out we highly recommend. Make sure you bring your credit card because it is a bit expensive but worth it for a great evening to catch up. Pros: Intimate and great staff Cons: A bit expensive, but worth it more

Never again! 2/16/2009

Let me tell you that is was not a good dining experience. The service was not too bad but other than that pretty terrible. First off it was on V-day and unaware to me was the fact that you have vertually no choice in menu selection. It was $69.00 a person for an appetizer (scallops - boyfriend doesn't like seafood and they were terrible), a cheese fondue (out of all the awesome ones listed on their site only 3 were available), a salad (again 3 choices), an entree ( we had to share this platter of bite sized meats which came out raw and had to be cooked by US in boiling brothey water), and last was the choc. fondue which I swear tasted just like hersey's syrup. So I guess if you like to be told what to eat, enjoy boiled meats incl. broth flavored lobster, and wanna leave with a $200.00 dollar bill for two then this is your place. Otherwise I suggest not going at all, at least not on a holiday. more

Great place to enjoy a 'different' eating experience. 12/29/2008

My husband and I went here for our anniversary and they treated us great. Very friendly waiter. Even though it was a Saturday night, we did not have to wait long for our table and it was packed! Highly recommend reservations. We enjoyed doing something 'different' by cooking tabletop. It was a little pricey but worth it. Pros: Ambience, food, service Cons: pricey more

A great night out! 12/22/2008

Dined here several times and really enjoy the place for a special occasion. Came in with some friend from out of town and the staff went out of thier way to make it a great evening for us all. It's a unique place to dine and a terrific spot to catch up. Food is great and I always order the Big Night out with all four courses. Highly recommend the Spinach and Artichoke cheese fondue. If you are into trying something different definately recommend. It is pricey but the majority of menu options are designed for two and include three or four course. Chocolate fondue is amazing. Staff is always there when you need them and service is far above average. Great location since you can go out afterwords to any number of bars or clubs once you are done. Pros: Great Service and nice atmosphere Cons: A little expensive more

Not worth half what we paid! Very disappointed. 12/21/2008

We went to The Melting Po* based on the reviews on this site. We had great expectations so we brought 7 people, 2 being kids. $275 later I am not impressed. The prices are outrageous. I'm not saying that the food is bad, or even just ok. It was decent. The fondue was fantastic. The salad was modern and different tasting. The entrees overall were great with the exception of the surf n turf (which was a tiny amount of food unlike the other entrees which were plentiful). I also need to point out that I never would have gone to this restaurant had I known that my $74 filet minon would be prepared by master chef me. They have you boil all of your food in a choice of broths (some of the spices cost an extra $5) right there at the table. They bring you raw food and give you some recommended cooking times. All of this was a very different experience and 1 that I hope saves some other folks some money and busted expectations. It simply was not worth the price. The staff was very courteous and impressive with how she memorized the orders all around. And my last piece of info, there is a mandatory gratuity of 18% for a party of only 5 people. Avoid the place unless your are hard up for fondue and there is no other place open. Pros: Great fondues. Great server. Cons: $$$ and disproportionate portions sizes more

worst experienced, bad service, owner looks and acts like a child 12/10/2008

I never will go back after my last experience, the owner was stocking wine in the main lobby in front of the host stand so when we walked in it seemed like we were there off hours, nobody said hi to us, and our server did not explain what we were doing and she gave us cook times for our food that were different from the 2 other servers at other tables. this is a classless experience, especially for the price. don't go. Pros: expensive for a below average experience Cons: all more

Perfect for a special occasion 9/3/2008

My boyfriend just took me here for our anniversary and it was absolutely wonderful. When he called in for the reservation they asked if it was a special occasion and he told them that it was. We were seated in a quiet back booth that was very private and hidden behind a wall and there was a beautiful white rose waiting on the table. Our waitress and the entire staff was very friendly and came back to check often. the bill did come to a little over $100 but for a four course meal for two including lobster and filet mignon we didn't think it was too bad. You get to cook the food yourself so it's fun, and you get a large variety. Perfect place for special occasions. Pros: everything Cons: n/a more

A ""Fun"" Place to Eat 12/7/2007

This is a great place to take a date or spouse. The atmosphere is casual and ""playing with your food"" makes conversations more fun and relaxed. We got the four-course meal, which is a little pricey (the bill came to over $100 for 2 people), but we will still go back again. If you plan to go in the summer, bring a sweater because they have the air conditioner on high and I was freezing the whole time I was there. Other than that, definitely a good choice for a restaurant. Pros: It's a Fondue Restaurant. What's not to love? Cons: A/C WAY too high in summer. Too Expensive. more

Definately Different 9/6/2007

I wasn't sure what to expect when my wife wanted me to take her out for fondue for her birthday. I was really suprised by the experience and amount of food we had with the Big Night Out dinner for two. Alot of fun, the presentation of the food was great, and they had a ton of wines to pick from. She loves the Conundrum which they serve for much less than any other place I've seen in town. Staff was very polite and attentive. The atmosphere was cozy and the facilities well kept. I highly recommend based on the fact that it is so different. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere make for a great place. It takes a while to dine but I believe that's part of the allure. Make sure you save room for the chocolate because it is amazing. They even served us a champagne toast at the end of our meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. A really nice touch! Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, great service, fun, private boothes, wine Cons: it costs a bit more to dine here more

Too much grease 11/21/2006

I understand that the concept of fondue is to dip your food in hot oil, so my comments are not necessarily about the restaurant itself. The wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a great place to catch up with old friends we hadn't seen in awhile, however, none of us felt that good the next day. Perhaps it was from eating the oil-soaked food or perhaps it was the food itself - who knows. I just thought it was too pricey and the food was not delicious by any means. So there you have it, food not so good. Environment good. Pros: Great wait staff, great ambience Cons: Pricy, food - not so great more

Wonderful restaurant, great food, nice ambience 11/19/2006

What a wonderful restaurant. The food is top-notch and the fondue is very fitting especially on a cold Winter night. The ambience is great - romantic or fun with friends. The desserts are amazing. It is a restaurant where you should plan to spend several hours conversing and enjoying the food. I cannot say enough good about this restaurant. Pros: Wonderful Restaurant more

loved, loved, loved the fondue 11/17/2006

the cheese fondue appetizer was so delicious and the chocolate fondue desserts were wonderful! not a huge fan of cooking my own food, but was an entertaining night out. great service and fabulous atmosphere. more

Fun! 11/14/2006

I really enjoy this restaurant. I have been here three times so far and plan to go back. Every time I have gone I have gotten the big night out and it was well worth it. However, I do have to warn that not all of my friends feel the same way about this restaurant. I recently picked this as the place to go for my birthday and got mixed reviews. I think the cooking process was too long for them. They all agreed they were glad they went but may not be back. I on the other hand love that it takes a few hours to dine here and enjoy the whole experience. Pros: Ambience and delicious food Cons: Takes a lot of time to eat here and expect to cook all of your own food more
