great place! 3/25/2006

For parents looking for fun, educational activities for the kids (or for them) to enjoy...go to the Mayborn museum. I went there last semester as part of one of my extended learning activities and i really loved it. there were many exhibits and stuff for the kids (which is the part i really loved). We went upstairs and they had physics/practical learning tools. There are lots of tours given on any particular day so i would recommend going earlier so you can avoid the rush. In all, its a great place, and is very cheap (free for students) so go get some knowledge! more

Why did we wait so long to check this out? Been in Waco 3 years and didn't visit until 2 months before moving away. The new Children's Musem is incredible - I had very low expectations going in, as I've visited many quality children's museums in large cities, but this was just as good. Huge themed rooms full of interactive things to do - 2 floors worth. My husband and I are childless and WE enjoyed an afternoon there. During the week many school groups visit but on a Saturday afternoon, we were able to visit and do any exhibit we wanted without a wait and it was not crowded. Lots of families and even a birthday party was meeting. In addition to the children's area, the admission cost ($6 for adults) covers the natural history section and other exhibits which are also very very well done. You can end your trip by walking through the oldest permanent Angelo settlement out back - a small collection of original homes that you are free to tour or peek in the windows of. A great afternoon outing, esp if you have visitors come into town. Definitely a place Waco should be proud of! more

Great Place to Spend a Rainy Day 7/7/2005

The Mayborn Museum is the perfect place to take your kids during the hot or rainy months in Waco. We took our two year old there, spent five hours, even missed a nap, and hardly noticed the time passing. On one side of the museum there are exhibits of interest to both children and adults, including a mammoth excavation and replicas of a prairie cabin, wig-wam, and tepee. The other side is aimed more directly at children, with interactive exhibits including live animals, model trains, a butterfly garden, a newsroom, and much more. We didn't even get to the second floor, there was so much to do. But, if you do actually exhaust all the regular features, they have traveling exhibits to keep things new. more
