My fiance and I drove down to the Savannah over the weekend to look at a few wedding venues. I set up the appointment about 3 weeks in advance, knowing that we needed to fit a lot in since we were driving from out of town. I sent Trey an email confirmation and received a reply hours later when we were on our 9 HOUR drive down that he had to cancel. He briefly apologized for the ""inconvenience."" He explained that the bride decided to move up the wedding by 3 hours, which is why he had to cancel. What bride moves up her wedding by 3 hours the day before? I would not work with them based on what looks like a complete lack of organization, communication, and respect for others' time. more

“Everyone who has written us thank you notes has nothing but the very best to say about the ambiance, the food, the presentation, your beautiful venue, your top-hatted doorman, etc. etc. The favorite comment is “You have set a new standard for weddings at the landings”. We want to thank you so much for all the effort you and your staff put into making this event one to remember with fond memories. Everything went off like clockwork from beginning to end. It is obvious you all have a love for your work and put your all into the effort. If asked, “would you recommend The Mackey House”‘ the answer would be a resounding “YES”. Thank you again for a truly remarkable and pleasurable event.” more

I want to get married again!!! 8/20/2011

I want to get married again! Oh, same husband but I want to get married at The Mackey House! This is Savannah's best kept secret but it should not be. This house is a photographer's dream! From the large Spanish-moss dripping trees out front to welcome your guests as they arrive to the fountain in the middle of pond that has beautiful white ducks swim across. I love to photograph brides on the white picket bridge that covers a small stream for beautiful, breath-taking photos. Below inside is a spacious changing area for brides and grooms and upstairs that holds several hundred people. The dj is fun, The Mackey's are a wonderful family that go above and beyond to make sure your wedding is your dream come true. Can't argue with experience! I am honored to be their wedding photographer. Jamie Dream Weaver Photos more

Thank you so much 6/25/2011

Crystal and I cannot thank you enough for opening your beautiful home to us on our wedding day. We Got married on May 14,2011 in the pavilion located on site. After we just moved up stairs for the reception. The transition was easy for all our guest and their was even an elevator for some of the grandparents! If you are looking for a truly southern venue than look no further! This Place is simply beautiful. Fred and Laura Mackey are some of the easiest folks to work with when it comes to planing a wedding. The wait staff are very professional and nice, the food is to die for and the DJ is GREAT! If you are looking into outsourcing your DJ please give Dave a look. Not only is he really nice, funny, and gets the crowd going, he knows the lay of the land and since he has been performing weddings there for a long time he can act as your wedding “planner”. He truly has a confidence about him and really knows how to make all your transitions go smoothly. We could not have asked for a better venue for our wedding or better people to host it. Thanks again Fred and Laura for making our special day come true!\r \r more

Our daughter, Elizabeth, was marriedA pril 30, 2011 at the Mackey House and the entire event went off flawlessly. From the hospitality and expertise of Laura and Fred Mackey to the wedding coordinator Dave, you could not ask for a more professional, dedicated and knowledgeable group of individuals. \r \r The grounds are well-manicured and picture perfect. The house is magnificent with the furnishings to accompany it. It is southern hospitality at its finest.\r \r Thank you Mackey House for making our daughter’s wedding the perfect event!\r \r more

Great Job 3/10/2011

?Being the Father of the Groom and having had absolutely nothing to do with the reception following the wedding of Jamie and Kylie, I want to congratulate you for the really world class job you did. As you probably noticed, the crowd was well represented by out of towners and the unanimous consent was ?these people know how to throw a party?. Well done and thanks!? more

Gorgeous, Wedding date 10/22/10 2/27/2011

I had my fall wedding at The Mackey House as well as my reception. The staff at the Mackey House, including Fred and Laura Mackey, were so helpful, amazing and accomodating. Mr. Mackey was so easy to work with, anything we wanted he made sure we could get. I cannot say enough good things about this beautiful venue!! All of my guests were completely charmed by the gorgeous setting and the beautiful home. They thought it was the perfect southern setting for our wedding. All of our guests commented on how delicious the food was and we had such an amazing sweet table. I would recommend The Mackey House to anyone looking for an elegant and very affordable wedding venue. Thank you Mackey House! Our wedding was an event that neither we nor our guests will ever forget! more

Some guest told us it was the best wedding ever attended 11/9/2009

When you book a wedding at the mackey house you envision a beautiful warm and sunny day and clear starlit evening. In the back of your mind, you know that there is a possibility that rain may fall; however, severe storms and tornado warnings are not in the picture. Our guests arrived in trolleys in the rain and were escorted into the house with umbrellas. They vistited and enjoyed the Mackeys beautiful and spacious home during the rain storm. During this time the staff was concerned about the safety of our guests and made plans to take guests to the garage area if necessary. After the danger passed guests were taken to the pavillion for the ceremony. The sound of the rain actually added to the beauty of the service. The guests then were invited to the home for the reception. The deck area was covered as best it could be so some people could eat outside. Others enjoyed the home, sunroom and large verands. The cutting of the cake would have been inside anyway. Guests stood downstairs and some went up onto the balcony and this was so picturesque. One concern we had was having the ability to talk to people when the dancing and music began but it was not a problem. Steping inside the kitchen, dining room or onto the veranda one could easily talk to guests. We can not say enough about the hospitality of Laura, Fred, and Dave the DJ. The music and entertainment provided by Dave was the greatest and the food was wonderful. The wedding couple and guest had a ""blast"". Some guests told us it was the best wedding they had ever attended. So if the possibility of bad weather is making your decision whether to book the Mackey House difficult it should not be a factor. On one of the stormiest and wettest nights in Savannah the Mackey House provided our daughter and now son-in-law with a beautiful and memorable wedding."" Pros: great food, hospitality, fun more

Speak from experience 10/14/2009

I was married at The Mackey House, as was my sister. I have also been to a wedding and a party there since then. They have only continued to get BETTER!! I suggest if anyone wants real reviews on how wonderful The Mackey House is from True Brides that have actually been married there, go check out their web site. They have letter after letter about their beauty and service from brides and family members. I hope this helps anyone who wants a perfect day!!! I recommend them to everyone I know! Pros: Beautiful and accommodating Cons: You have to book early if you want a popular wedding month. more

VERY EXPENSIVE- NO REFUNDS-BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES 9/14/2009

I should have been clued in when we found out that the deposit just to save your date is $2500 MINIMUM!!!!! Although the wedding was scheduled way over a year in advance Mr. Mackey insisted that the dates would fill up fast and the date would not be saved until he received our deposit. When we cancelled several months later and still well in advance of the date, he refused to refund our money. Most venues in Savannah only charge a few hundred dollars if anything at all just to write in your date. There is usually a deadline stated when deposits will not be refunded such as within 30 days of the date. Conclusion; Fred Mackey is hoping you can't make your date and that way he gets to make an awesome sum of money for doing absolutely nothing. Be careful when you choose this site for your wedding, I imagine no refunds is just one of many surprises with this venue. Pros: Beautiful place and setting Cons: Unethical owners and bad wedding planners more

Great place for a beautiful wedding and reception 6/24/2009

When we arrived at the Mackey house for our first visit, We were impressed with how beautiful the place was. We were looking for something with some southern charm and the house and garden had the perfect setting. They showed us videos of other weddings and we loved how everything ( the food, the garden, the decor)was setup. They take care of everything from decorating, the garden, catering the food which was not only great but beautifully set up. They can help you with a dj/wedding cordinator, flowers, and photographers if you desire. Which makes things alot easier to plan if your able to take advantage of. We chose to just have the wedding in the garden and to have the reception catered at the house. Everything was decorated beautifully for the wedding and the reception(from the center pieces, to the food,to the flowers in the bathroom.) Made it feel very much a personal event. we dont think we could have ever had a more beautiful wedding or have we ever seen a wedding as beautiful. we have had so many compliments on how beautiful and nice everything was. It was very simple and elegant at the same time. Thanks to Mr and Mrs. Mackey and all the crew at the Mackey house for making everything so wonderful on our special day. Pros: The garden, the home, and the food is awesome. Cons: They book up dates fast more

Unprofessional Owners & Vendors 2/2/2009

After a long year of planning the most important day of our lives, the Mackey House owner did not want to handle any of the wedding details until two weeks before and said ""if I did not like it then I can just take my wedding elsewhere."" What an awful thing to tell a person your doing business with let alone a ""bride."" So we did and had the most incredible wedding ever...thanks to my newly hired wedding planner! We are now even getting featured in the local Savannah Wedding magazine. With the Mackey House it seems so great because they can accommodate a lot of people, where downtown Savannah it's a little harder but I will tell you that it is not worth it. Also, you might like that they have a DJ, caterer, beverage service, an all inclusive deal but it's NOT! You do not get to taste the food or meet with the DJ to discuss music until two weeks before. They just do so many weddings..no personal details are taken into consideration. On top of everything we were not able to get our deposit back but it all worked out in the end because we ended up with the most beautiful wedding that was even less expensive than the Mackey House. Everything was less expensive and we were in downtown Savannah and that's where you want your family and friends to see you get married...not someone's home where their personal belongings and furniture are in the background of every picture you take. I bet it looked great a few years ago but it is definitely run down now and their pictures do not reflect it's actual appearance...please go see for yourself. I will also tell you that my mother flew down from Virginia in June to plan and see the venue and we had a meeting set with the owners for two weeks and he stood us up! Really...all in all they are very difficult to work with and I am not the only one to admit that. If you want the best wedding go to Memories N More for the BEST vendors. Thank you for all that you did for us Tricia, Teresa, Natalie, Heidi, and Cynthia. Pros: Nothing Cons: Personal Touch, Owners, Vendors, Expensive, Not as Publicized more
