This place is truly fantastic. The gardens are lovely and range from English to Oriental. They've got rare kinds of cacti and succulents in the Desert Garden. The Lily Ponds a...

Worst

Just went January 14, 2012. I've visited the library and gardens every 2-3 years for the past 28 years. Honestly, the gardens look horrible. Don't know if money is an issue but t...

Loved It 4/2/2003

The Huntington Library is one of my most favourite museums. I especially love the extensive gardens and library. Pros: Inexpensive, Good parking, not crowded Cons: Not open late enough more

Something for Everyone 3/13/2003

Great art, beautiful gardens, traditional tea room, great for whole family. It's the place I 'run off to' most often -- either by myself, with family, or with friends. On the ""Free"" day (first Thursday of the month), I've even had business meetings out on one of the lawns. Pros: Free Parking, Good for Whole Family, Tea Room more

Beautiful! 3/4/2003

My favorite place to bring friends, especially, the ladies! It is a magnificent place to walk and converse with a friend or family, while at the same time admire the variety of theme gardens. It's a great place to get out of the city, so to speak. I like to go on weekdays as to avoid the crowd during the weekends. If you do go on the weekends get there when it opens, because the crowd will pick up. Pros: price, relaxing, beautiful Cons: finding parking more

Beautiful afternoon 1/19/2003

The grounds are gorgeous, and they have a large collection of artwork (especially British). The Blue Boy is here, as well as work by Turner. The Japanes garden is not to be missed, be sure to bring your camera. No food or drink allowed, so don't plan on a picnic. Wear comfortable shoes, there's a lot of walking. Pros: beautiful, plenty of benches Cons: can be crowded, a lot of walking more

Nice 11/15/2002

There are gardens, and art gallery all in one place. It's very entertaining for my friends from another country. more

Heaving Garden 7/29/2002

This is a good place to visit during summer, the Gardens are incredible and the Museum is also really nice. Pros: Good Parking, Nice Gardens, Good Art Cons: outdoors weather more

Pasadena's Haven 7/1/2002

This landscape of endless lawns with areas dedicated to a variation of flowers is absolutely thee spot. I frequently visit to walk the grounds, relax, and lose myself in the beauty. The lawns are so green it makes your eyes and senses appreciate your God given capabilities to appreciate nature. Go here to decompress and get ZEN. more

absolutely beautiful 7/1/2002

What a great place to relax and enjoy the finer things in life. The Huntington library has various gardens ranging from rose, tropical, austrailian to desert. They have a restaurant and tea house. My favorite is the tea house but make reservations. It's about a month wait for a weekend tea resevation. They serve an all you can enjoy buffet of petite sandwichs and pastries. A true San Gabrial Valley jewel. Pros: relaxing, good parking more

Serene Gardens 6/28/2002

I'm a Pasadena resident and I love just taking an hour or two once a month to walk the serene gardens of the Huntington Library. My favorite place to walk is through the Japanese gardens. Enjoy life, relax from the hustle and bustle of city life by visiting the Huntington gardens. more

A Nice Place to Relax 6/27/2002

I come here once in a while to relax at the Japanese Gardens. I am fond of the Oriental Culture, and it's nice for me to sit on one of the benches and enjoy reading a nice book. They also have a beautiful rose garden that I took my family to see when they were in town as well as the museum which has different exhibits that are seaonal. Pros: Good Parking, Peaceful Atmosphere more

Beautiful Grounds 6/13/2002

I haven't really checked out the art galleries yet, but the gardens here are wonderful. You can wander for hours on the little paths or stroll through their famous Rose Garden. There are benches scattered throughout the grounds or you can rest on the wide expanses of lawn and just sit in the sun. There are also periodic plant sales; the last time I visited, there was an orchid sale in the parking lot. Pros: lots of parking Cons: crowded on weekends more

Glorious Gardens 6/6/2002

I'm usually more a fan of art rather than nature, bu the gardens at the Huntington outshine even Blue Boy and the Folios inside. The cactus garden is especially breathtaking -- acres of plants so alien you feel as though you've been stranded on another planet. A truly amazing experience. more

most magnificant sight in LA 5/22/2002

No question Huntington Gardens and Library is the most impressive place in LA. It should be number 1. It is really impressive. Getty museum you can do in 1 hour - they have 2 paintings worth looking at. Huntington has incredible gardens, incredible library with books that would raise your eyebrows. The ponds are magnificant with different types of turtles. Japanese garden where a lot of movies have been shot. It is the most magnificant sight in LA Pros: Incredible Gardens, Incredible Library, Magnificant Landscape Cons: Warm on some days more

Books and gardens. 5/20/2002

Founded by Henry Huntington in the early part of the century, the Huntington Library contains a dazzling array of garden landscapes. One can easily spend an entire day walking the grounds. The library contains an impressive number of historical documents including a Gutenberg Bible, Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, letters and manuscripts from George Washington to Abraham Lincoln, and a large scale edition of Audubons Birds of America. The tearoom in the rose garden is a great place to sit and relax for afternoon tea and a snack. Be sure to make reservations for the tearoom. Its frequently booked, especially on weekends. Pros: Beautiful Gardens more

A Whole Day Trip 5/20/2002

I think more so than the art, the gardens are the real attraction here. Sure, it's nice to comtemplate Blue Boy and Pinkie for awhile (and convenient too, as there's a bench in the room and they are installed directly across from one another), but the real treat is outside in the opulent gardens. My favorite is the Japanese, where one can spend an endless amount of time just soaking up its lush, green feel. The desert is interesting as well, though it's too hot for long strolls on summer days. The rainforest area is good, as well and authentic in mid-winter downpours. more

Under-rated 5/19/2002

After you've seen Blue Boy, hike past the rose bushes into the Japanese garden. In the bamboo grove, the trunks are so tall and wide and densely planted that they blot out the sun. Dark, cool, green. Emerge into the sunlight and wander down to the Rose Garden Tea Room. more

Urban Escape 5/15/2002

Discover pure joy. These gardens are incredible and beautiful. Its the perfect place to take out-of-town guests, but also a great place to unwind alone. All the gardens are well kept, but the desert garden is truly mind-blowing. I've been to other desert gardens and nothing else compares. The libraries are great as well. more

Perfect for visiting family 5/15/2002

Take a break at the little tea shop after you've strolled the gardens. Bring a camera and comfortable walking shoes. Makes for a spectacular afternoon. Pros: the gardens Cons: a little pricey more

Pretty Perfect 5/15/2002

The Huntington is beautiful--the gardens, the galleries, the library. I've been several times and still haven't seen it all. The Japanese Garden is the highlight for me, though the desert gardens are spectacular as well. I'd love to picnic on one of the lawns (not allowed), but I respect that to maintain such a pristine, reliably beautiful local treasure, there have to be some rules. Grab a friend--and your camera--and enjoy a quiet, leisurely day outside. Pros: Japanese Gardens Cons: No picnicking more
