Overview
Pristine and primitive, the Uintas are an unspoiled wilderness with several lakes, marshes, alpine areas and camping spots. The mountains are home to the state's highest peak--13,528-foot King's Peak. The main road--Mirror Lake Highway--connects Kamas to Evanston, Wyoming. The highway is closed by snow from October to mid-June, but snowmobilers and cross-country skiers use the trail for winter sport.
The Experience
A popular weekend destination for Wasatch Front families, the Uintas are surrounded by U.S. Forest Service campgrounds. Anglers take advantage of the many alpine lakes and hikers and backpackers explore the 500 miles of trails that crisscross the area. Elk, moose and mule deer are common sights, but keep your eyes open for golden eagles, owls, hawks, weasels, mink and beaver.
