Gay Girls Night on Wednesdays 2/22/2009

I've been dying to find somewhere to meet girls on the westside forEVER. Forever literally. Bubble Lounge started here every Wednesday for gay girls just this month and I went last week and it was jampacked with hot girls looking to meet! I couldn't believe my eyes (droooool!) It was a cool mixed crowd of gay and straight, an awesome space, I love the retro look. The DJ was killer, everybody was dancing, and I GOT SOME!!!!! Yes, it was seriously perfect all around. So, for me, for now, it's The Garter to meet girls on a Wednesday, this is my spot! Keep up the good work! Pros: Awesome for what I was seeking Cons: Not many more

Superbowl 1/30/2009

Does anyone know if they are having a super bowl event?? So Far the the only place in Downtown Culver City that is having an event is at Gyenari: - Super Happy Hour from 1-8 in our lounge - $10 super BBQ special! - $2 Hite draft beer! Game will be broadcast on plasma TV's in lounge and on our state of the art 100 inch screen in the dining room. BBQ, drink, and cheer for your team on Super Sunday! more

Good Chill Spot 1/25/2009

I had a wonderful time at this place. The atmosphere was cool as well as the people. I like the bartenders as they don't give you any attitudes and the drinks aren"t that expensive and there's no cover charge. The bouncers were cool to me and my friends and they greet you really well and they are so professional. The bouncers at the clubs in Hollywood are egotistic and rude. This is what makes a good and safe place to chill and have drinks. Any ladies out there that has been to this bar, do any of you have any info or know the really tall cute bouncer? Pros: there's no long line Cons: not enough updated hip hop music more

Sketch bar 1/20/2009

I was out with my friends for a girls night out, and decided to go home before the rest of my friends. I walked outside and the valet guy offered to call me a cab and stood with me "until it would get there". Every time a cab would pull up he would say that it was the wrong cab, and they were on their way. 15 minutes passed, still no sign of "MY" cab. I told the guy I really had to go home, and he told me to follow him (2 cars down) and opened a car door and told me to get in. I said no and walked back to the bar, and thank god a cab was sitting there which he said was "not mine" again.. and I just jumped in. Not sure what the deal was but as a young drunk girl....alone.....freaked me out that the valet guy- working at this bar.. was going to leave to try and "take me home"? My friends and I now have banned this sketch bar, and would rather go anywhere in Venice than The Garter. Pros: location Cons: not safe more

Tuesday Night Live Music was HOT 9/12/2008

I had never been to the Garter. My girlfriends dragged me out on a Tuesday, even though I didn't want to go. I'm glad they did! My thing is live music, and I wasn't expecting it. But, they had it for sure. The band was hot. Like a funk groove rock hip hop I don't know what! Sampling jazz, hip hop, etc... Good booty shakin'. Creative. Kinda reminded me of that stuff at the Brig, only these boys had singin' and they did interesting covers. And the DJ was sahweet. Stuff I've never heard before. Love the vibe. Full on Venice locals kinda place. I'll be going again on a chillax Tuesday for sure. God bless no cover no Hollywood wannabe b.s. Pros: live music, ambiance, pool table, good crowd Cons: the location is just okay more

Nice Place, Big Crowd- very nice service (3.5 stars) 9/2/2008

i showed up on a saturday night looking to scout the place for my upcoming birthday- the front security guy was very very pleasant and answered a few of my questions before i went in. inside, the decor was lovely- red and sultry. there's a small fireplace area and a pool table, plus a dancefloor. the place was decently sized, but very warm. at the bar i ordered a ketel/soda (it took about 2 minutes) and it was 8 bucks. not bad. the drink was a good pour and the bartender was very nice as well. outside, the smoking area (where i went to cool off) was packed. the whole place was fairly full, actually, and pretty loud. the crowd seemed normal, and the second security guy i met was really nice too. all in all, i'd say this place is probably great on an offday- beautiful insides, great service. for me, the crowd was too much, but still a cool place. Pros: decor, service Cons: warm, loud, very crowded on a weekend more

So fun and FREE everynight, friendly staff!! Best on the West 8/27/2008

I live a block away so I'm very happy this place exists. Fun dancing, usually a nice and fun local crowd. Bring a good attitude this place is not stuck up Hollywood :) yay more

Editorial
  • In Short
Don't expect mango martinis or passionfruit mojitos at this Westside drinking den, where the entire menu reads "beer and liquor." Old-fashioned crimson wallpaper, black chandeliers and leather booths create an Old West brothel meets Crate & Barrel lounge feel. Fireside sofas, a pool table, bar seating and a Spartan patio in front provide plenty of places for an interesting mix of off-work suits and regular Joe 20- and 30-somethings to get cozy and share bottle service or a beer with some friends. Bright and relaxed on weekdays, the small space comes alive on weekend nights, when DJs spin, and bumping and grinding ensues.

Hits: This place is far more laid-back than many of the trendy places in nearby Venice that are pushing drink prices to new heights. For now at least, the party on Lincoln is open to everyone.

Misses: With a pool table, jukebox, DJ and sumptuous interior sometimes reserved for bottle service, there's a sense of trying to be all things to all people. And the location, amid auto shops and other grunge, creates a jarring contrast with the hip vibe that it's trying to create.
