They have a great meat department, and pretty good fresh veggies, but the surly and uncaring employees make shopping here unpleasant. The green shopping baskets are always filthy, and on a recent visit there were flies on the inside of the individual muffin display, and at least 20 containers of Noosa yogurt were more than 5 days out of date. You can never find a manager, and no one ever asks if you had a good shopping experience.
At the meat, grocery and bakery counters, staff never greet you with a smile (and often let you stand there for a while without making eye contact).
One day I stood at the bakery case for several minutes while an employee was just standing around in the back and surely saw me. Finally she came to the counter and asked if I needed help. I was tempted to say ""no, I'm just admiring the desserts."" Then she put my cupcake in a too-small box and squished all the frosting. When I asked for another in larger container she gave me a dirty look and said that's all she had. So I bought nothing.
At the meat counter, they only want you to choose from steaks on the top row. If you ask to see one on the bottom row they give you a dirty look. When I'm paying $19 a pound for a filet, I'd like to choose it. Other meat markets cheerfuly do this, and usually help you make a selection.
In the wine dept, there are many bottles without a price sign. Don't know why they go the trouble of making an attractive display without any price shown.
Checkout is never a breeze, either, as they seldom have enough cashiers open. Although I will say that the checkout staff is courteous, unlike the rest of the employees in the store.
Come on, Fresh Market, step it up a notch. Your store is convenient, but you're going to lose business if you don't clean up your act.
