Worst

I had heard about Forbidden City and wanted to go there (not to eat, but for the nightlife) . So I look it up on the internet. The pictures are really nice and classy. I noticed t...

I'll never go back 9/11/2003

We tried this place on a whim, and ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. I ordered the "house specialty" pineapple fried rice. For $8.95 you would expect some fresh ingredients. Nothing. Frozen peas, carrots, and horrible shrimp. Not to mention we had to listen to a horrible dj spinning on a really poor sound system. One second the volume was low, the next it was knocking off the roof. The valet was a whole other story. It took over 10 minutes to get a valet's attention. He still ignored us, so we finally took our keys ourselves. The bar may be alright. I wouldn't know as I couldn't wait to get out of the place. If you're looking for good Chinese food, try something else. Pros: Wait Staff Pleasant Cons: Horrible Food, Loud dining, Slow & rude valet more

It's good 8/26/2003

Well the door man was nice so were the workers inside. It has a good food with resanable price. The place looks very nice. The dj was off the hook. He played nice relax music early in the evening+ good hiphup and trance! I gess the place doesn't have LC for dancing but once it does it will be great club. Very nice and good looking people. Has a nice larg patio outside and nice bar inside. I will go back once they get their lc for dancing just because I am not a stricly bar person. Pros: nice bar/launge, great dj, inexpesive valley Cons: no dancing more

Nice 8/17/2003

Several bars to suit your preferred atmosphere. Stunning outdoor patio, dark sexy upstairs lounge with leather lounge chairs and daybeds, strong drinks, surprisingly decent food, and beautiful people. For now. more

The Forbidden City, a pure, unadulterated feng shui museum quality dining experience

Owner Message
  • Forbidden City is not yet another to claim Asian Fusion. Very deliberately we keep two distinct kitchens. One Chinese, the other Japanese, neither are fused as they are both authentic and pure. The chefs specialize in their own distinct customs, flavors and cultures. Our Chinese Chef Wang Xiao Xin is 1 of only 9 chefs taught by the National Chef of China. Our Sushi Chef has over twenty years of experience working at famous sushi bars in Tokyo. Our food is fresh, authentic and extraordinary. Our decor and ambiance is unparalleled as we have imported over sixty six tons of custom handcrafted artifacts from overseas. Our happy hour is DAILY from 11:30am-6pm with great lunch specials. We feature live entertainment every night. Come for karaoke on Mon/Tues nights.Spontaneous dancing is known to take place and encouraged on Wed to Sat nights when we have live music and entertainment

Editorial
  • In Short
The owner of El Cid and the Larchmont transformed this former banquet hall into a versatile nightspot. Dining rooms are dressed in racy crimson and the Capital Records building towers over a spacious patio. A basic Chinese-American menu starts with crispy spring rolls and breaded shrimp in portions large enough to share. Entrees are dominated by rice and noodle dishes, like kung pao chicken chock-full of bell peppers and onions; beef chow mein; and house-specialty pineapple fried rice.
