It was great for a date, but as far as taking kids...well, they would be bored. You have to be so careful when the butterflies land on you that for the little ones it is hard to c...

Fantastic for learning, relaxation, and enjoyment 8/17/2005

I found the Butterfly House to be so enjoyable after I went there that I became a volunteer, and I stayed in that position until I went off to college. From my position, I got to see first hand the amount of work that goes into making the both the indoor and outdoor gardens as beautiful as they are. The butterfly Flight House has a large and variable assortment of butterflies in a tropical greenhouse. Outside is a set of gardens designed to attract local butterflies. I especially recommend coming in the winter; the Flight House is cooler, so the butterflies move slower and the crowds are much smaller (which combine to mean that you have more time to examine butterflies at a leisurely pace). Plus, few things are nicer than coming in from the freezing cold to some warm tropical greenery. more

Nice place to visit 8/17/2005

This is a really nice place to visit, especially in the winter when you are needing a dose of green and warmth. They have a great variety of butterflies here and they many are very easy to spot and get a close view of. However, I have to say that the Monsanto Insectarium at the Zoo is probably a little bit better, and although the actual butterfly conservatory there is smaller, there are quite a few more insects to see in displays. But overall, if you are in the Chesterfield area, this is a nice place to check out. more

My Daughter's Favorite Place to Visit 8/16/2005

An offshoot of the Botanical Gardens, the Butterfly House is full of butterflies, flowers and pretty things everywhere. In a controlled environment, you'll be able to see many different butterfly species floating freely about and if you stand quietly still, you'll more than likely have them rest on you for a moment. The wide variety of shapes and colors is absolutely breathtaking. Before you enter the house, make sure you allow your children to play on the giant caterpillar out front, it's sure to be a hit. more
