Book Dispensary 11/8/2011

I’d like to brag on this business for a few moments that you may be encouraged to see for yourself that the Book Dispensary is a great source for used books, and especially for trading your books (both paperback and hardback books), while providing a unique environment that is most appealing for your shopping pleasures. I have been a patron of the Book Dispensary for more than 13 years and I give the Book Dispensary 5+ stars. I’ll share my review and am confident if you’ll drop by to see for yourself, you’ll agree with me that they deserve an excellent review. I have shopped on several occasions recently to look for paperbacks for my daily reading pleasure, and to browse the hardbacks for a possible addition to my personal library; each time I was pleased with my shopping experience. For many years they were located at Boozer Shopping Center on Two Notch Road. They have been combined and now located under one roof which I believe is extremely convenient.. At this new location, you’ll not have to worry about getting a parking space or dodging traffic getting in and out of their parking lot. The fact that they are on Gracern Road, away from the main stream of business, is fantastic in my opinion... the road less traveled most often provides a much more enjoyable and meaningful experience. They obviously know the book business extremely well (from having been in the business for over 30 years) because the store is so well laid out and organized, not to mention they seem to agree with me that a store should be neat and clean. Organization and cleanliness is imperative or I simply wouldn’t come back. You’ll not have to worry about that at the Book Dispensary. The look and feel of the Book Dispensary isn’t pretentious or intimidating, the physical style which is handsomely attractive more like a European ‘book shoppe’ with built in bookshelves, rich colors and detailed molding. The Book Dispensary isn’t that large, but still you get a real sense of discovery because it consists of several rooms each showcasing a different category of books. It’s quite apparent they’ve made the store convenient for the shopper. My experience with book trading is a plus with the Book Dispensary, which is the main reason I am so inspired to write this review. They offer the same wonderful deals as before. They remain consistent with their trading policies which I find fair and most reasonable. The Book dispensary wants their customers to keep coming back. You’ll see you will too. In closing... I’ll never get bored as long as the Book Dispensary is in business, because there, I always discover a wonderful book I didn’t know I wanted to read or a book that allows me to learn something new and stimulating. You just can’t put a price on knowledge gained, insights learned or the intense pleasure you get from a really good book that personally touches you somewhere deep inside. I love the Book Dispensary. You’ll understand my review once you’ve visited this great book store... NannieMidder more

Really, really peeved!!!!! 1/8/2011

I have been patronizing the book dispensary since I was in middle school. When they were on Two Notch Road I always felt I was getting a good deal. Since they moved to their new location I feel I am getting ripped off every time I go there! I went today and took a bagful of books. I got a credit of 20.00 and got some books. The guy charged me almost 30 dollars for my books. I got in the car and realized something wasn't right and added it up. When I went back and confronted him he said he had "forgotten" to take off my credit (even though he had just written it out 2 minutes before!) Anyway, the "real" total was less than 15 dollars. Now that I am home and have gone through my books they didn't want I honestly feel I was ripped off on that too. I just have a really "bad taste" in my mouth about this place. I don't think I will be back. I just can't spend my money on a place that I don't trust. Oh and they don't give receipts! I mean how do you run a business and not give receipts! I just don't think I will be back...I am so peeved!!!! more

Not what it could be 6/18/2009

Was disappointed by this bookseller. Have been a long-time customer of Ed's Editions; the Book Dispensary doesn't compare. I've been to the location in the Boozer mall three times, and each time I'm greeting by a completely different staff. They tend to be helpful, but never seem to know much about the stock or book collecting in general. I was also quoted an unreasonably high price for ordering an out-of-print book. I overheard another customer, presumably a regular, say that the owner (who wasn't in) has some mental problems. By contrast, Ed's Editions in Columbia is well-organized and stocked, with knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. Ed is frequently there himself and is active in the local collecting community. On the plus side, the Book Dispensary had many romance paperbacks and the customers seemed happy getting their Harlequin fix. Pros: Lots of paperbacks Cons: Staff turnover, lack of knowledge, overpriced collectibles more
