great cafe in amherst 4/7/2006

this is a great cafe with delicious sandwiches, great baked goods, and good coffee. they have a wide variety of hot and cold drinks, and the staff is friendly. i personally like their coffee cake which is moist, sweet, and just perfect. it's a pretty good size too. black sheep is a nice place to come with a friend to drink some coffee and have a pastry, or come here for lunch because it is also a deli ;) more

Fresh food 3/23/2006

This place has the best sandwiches in Amherst. They have a wide selection of sandwiches but they also sell prepared foods and desserts. If you go, try the fresh mozzarella and pesto sandwich. They stuff tons of mozzarella into a baguette and smother it with pesto. The staff behind the counter are always patient and never pushy. Overall good lunch place. more

Great home made tasting foods! 9/9/2005

The Black Sheep offers not only a great deli for fresh-made sandwiches, but also a great stop for coffee in the morning (during the spring, fall and summer months chairs with tables are placed along the Amherst sidewalk as a place to sit and enjoy a morning cup of coffee or a sandwich with a friend during lunch). They also offer great breads and pastries. During weekends, live music is also part of the small-town atmosphere. more

Good food, tons of choices 9/9/2005

The hardest part about the Black Sheep Deli and Bakery is deciding what to get. There is an excellent variety of soups and sandwiches and other yummy meal options, many of which are vegan friendly. They bakery cases is extremely tempting as it sits near the register. I suggest indulging...it's worth it! more

sandwich please 8/15/2005

The sandwiches and baked goods at the black sheep are amazing. I love the foul play sandwich, but every time I go in I have a hard time deciding between all the delicious options. It's a good place to try something new, because everything tastes good! All the bakery items are great, and the bread is baked fresh - I just can't resist the cookies they have by the register. However, I don't really like the drink options (mostly natural or organic) so sometimes I buy a beverage elsewhere to have with my sandwich. more

Okay for pastries, not too good for catering 8/12/2005

I've gone to the Black Sheep a few times for pastries and had no complaints, so I decided to use them for an office catering event. I ordered two party platters a week ahead of time. When I went to pick them up, the guy said he "couldn't find them anywhere." I asked him what that meant and he said that either they lost the order or the cooks forgot to make them. But don't worry, he said, he could make them for me righ tnow. Fair enough. Then he added, "I've actually never made these before, but I can look up the ingredients." Okayyyy. He made up my platters and gave me extra food for the inconvenience, as now the food was a half hour late for my party. The platters themselves were not very good. The marinated vegetables tasted like they were soaked in Italian salad dressing, the mozzarella tasted like unflavored tofu (in fact, some guests though it was tofu), the hummus was also flavorless. A few days later, I went to pick up an order for coffee and tea service which I also ordered ahead of time. They gave me my canisters of coffee, decaf, and hot water for tea. When I got to my event, I saw that they hadn't given me any tea for this hot water. How annoying! I called to complain and am waiting for compensation, but I hope it's not a gift certificate because I will not be using their service again. more

You will never find good like this anywhere else but the Black Sheep Bakery and Deli. Their prices are a bit high, but once you take a bite of one of their famous sandwiches, you forget all about it. They cater too! Their desserts are to die for as well. Get there fast! more
