Exceptional Customer Service 8/17/2009

I ran in to check-in for the Bride and Groom over the weekend. I had little time to spare to make it to the reception to help set up. Michelle was friendly, prompt, and she went way beyond expectations to help us out. Not only did she make it easy, we were able to set up a special (unexpected) surprise for the Bride and Groom on their first special evening together. Thank you for making this so memorable for the B&G. FANTASTIC SERVICE! (I would give them a chance and dismiss the other negative remarks the guests left in regards to their transportation experience. Just come prepared and get things in writing.) Pros: The atmosphere and Michelle at check-in counter Cons: N/A more

Good place to get fleeced by the staff. 3/30/2009

The bellmen and valet exchanged money with my town car driver who was only supposed to charge me $40 for a trip to PDX. He charged me $70. The driver told me the bellmen charged him $20 for MY trip to the airport, a surcharge that I, the customer, am responsible for? How does that work? Is it legal? What a coincidence there is another posting about some shady stuff going on. Or is it? Pros: Cheap Cons: Shady valet and bellmen. more

Example: great place for good bread 3/30/2009

I was furious when the bell man forced me into a town car to go to the airport, and latter I found out it would be $50. I had specifically asked for "" a car"" to the airport- I assumed that meant to them that would be a taxicab car, rather than a shuttle van or bicycle for that matter. What I get was reamed for about $20 which was about as worthless as the paper it was written on it. The town car was just a lincoln town car, how was that worht $50 for a 20 minute ride? Everyone knows you stay at the marriott to save money, get the points on business and use the comp nights for vacation time .... instead I got quickly hustled. I could tell the door man had something to do with it, since he was very quick about immediately turning to some shady dude with a mustache who broke into town on an arabian horse the night before and stunk of $25 a bottle cologne. You would think for that much money, he could it least sport some calvin klein or something moderate, I never did get the name of the company it was an unmarked car with some cell phone # on the front that didn't answer. Besides it was realy the mariott's fault. Oh well, next time beware Pros: worst door men in town Cons: worst door men in town, terrible bell hops more

High Maitenance Happy Customer!!! 11/29/2008

When I am on vacation from my full time job, full time charity work and 2 small kids, I want to be pampered. The Marriott did not disappoint! Scott (concierge) was AMAZING! Incredibly helpful and informative. The valet staff was welcoming and accomodating, and the service in the restaurant and at the front desk left nothing to be desired. I have worked in service and expect the great service I have always given, making me a much more high maintenance customer to please than most. I can't remember a time that I was not impressed during my stay. more

Loved this Hotel (even though i hate chains) 3/7/2008

my parents came to visit Portland for the 1st time 2 weeks ago and stayed at this hotel. they had a great experience. after a little mishap checking-in coming straight-off a redeye flight, the staff at this place was more than accommodating. i know my parents, they are from miami and can be very highstrung and demanding...2 traits not common in pdx. so, i was super impressed by the consistent kindness and patience that all the staff maintained. everyone was friendly, the facilities well maintained with recent upgrades (large flatscreens) and a good location being downtown. the concierge, Scott (i think), was great. he always made a good recommendation and was honest with his opinions. he even gave us comp tickets to the ballet. needless to say, when entertaining finicky people, first impressions are important and this place made a great impression on new visitors. They cant wait to come visit again. Thank you! This marriott made a family visit a stress-free experience... and we all know how rarely that happens. Pros: wonderful staff, extremely clean, good location, nice amenities Cons: downtown location lacks the 'neighborhood' feel that typifies Portland more

Breakfast Info. 6/15/2003

This is the Marriott hotel's restaurant. I have only been there for breakfasts. If you go for breakfast I would encourage you to order from the menu and not be tempted to take the easy route through the buffet. The food is stale and inferior as there is no one interested in attending to it. Breakfasts ordered off the menu are fairly good. Service can be either fair, but scatterbrained if they are nearly empty to downright aweful if there is more than 3 customers to attend to. They seem resigned to the fact that their service is dismall. Lots of folks running around with empty minds and hands. Bewildering. I did hear a waiter lament that he had to juggle two jobs, three kids and schooling. He was excuse making to another table. Maybe they need to find people who want to wait tables and come prepared to work. Pros: Pretty view, Good coffee & juice Cons: Nasty buffet, Poor service more
