One of the most awesome places to meet people. Cool music & awesome bartenders. Pretty fast service concidering how many people are there (gets pretty packed).

Always a good time 5/29/2009

Aquarium is always one of the bars I stop at on 6th street. They usually have really good drink specials ($1 domestics on Friday I think) and the bartenders are fast and friendly. The music is always good but there's not much room to dance. You can escape the crowd by going upstairs, and the bartenders are usually better up there anyway. Cool place! Pros: drink prices, nice staff, good music Cons: crowded more

Great time 10/29/2006

Front windows open right in the middle of the crazyness on the Halloween. Great time, liked the fact that even though there was a line in front it moved quick, the staff was friendly, and the patrons were nice. more

A place for Us 5/22/2005

You know us, the pretty, yuppy, preppy folk from the sororities and fraternity. It's just big party at the aquarium. Great looking guys and girls from around town. It can get real busy, so get there early if you are planning to drink a lot! Girls- you're better off getting to the bars and ordering for your group. I always slife right up the bar and get served within minutes. =) Pros: Good looking people, Life's a Party feel Cons: Gets Loud, Gets Crowded more

yo its all there 12/9/2002

i'd try to get there a shade under midnight, before the lines get too long to get in and to get drinks. but usually after midnight thats when it all begins, take it in! the alcohol and definately the women. Pros: cheap dirnks, good crowd, lots of space Cons: long lines more

probaby fun for undergrads... 11/21/2002

as it feels like a perpetual frat party. remember the days where you had to shout to talk to the person next to you, that the line to the keg stretched around the block, and strangers "accidentally" bumped up your breasts? you can relive those days again at the aquarium! overcrowded, it's nearly impossible to get a drink. and men assume that since you're there, you must be looking to be groped. the bouncers must have learned their sales techniques in the border towns -- if I make you feel hot, like I want to flirt with you, you'll come into my bar and spend money. Does that trick honestly work on anyone? And if it does, do you really want to meet them? Pros: cheap beer Cons: overcrowded, scamming undergrads more

Every time I go here with some friends, we are guaranteed to leave with at least one or two numbers each. Clearly this is the place for singles! more

this bar has everything, good music, good crowd, cool staff, and a place for all the hot ladies in Austin. The Beaverman himself says, this is definitely the place to be on 6th street. BTW, Love the Aquarium. Pros: drink, women, good times Cons: none more

Great place to party 5/21/2002

The Aquarium is one of a kind. Great people, music and drinks all the time, and don't forget the gorgeous women! Be sure to checkout the mirror in the men's restroom on crowded nights. more

Editorial
  • In Short
The Aquarium makes the most of a small space with a layout suitable for singles making the rounds. Tables fill the front but disappear as the bar deepens. Congregating 20-somethings line the left side, checking out the wall of aquariums and the incoming mix of conservative businessmen and the tattooed and pierced working its way toward the massive bar on the right. A small corner bar and nearly hidden restrooms make the upstairs a comfortable alternative.
