We visited on a Friday evening. There is limited parking, but we got the last spot in the lot. We were seated right away. We ordered soup #18. Can't remember the name, but it ...

First Thai experience! 2/28/2010

On the windy day of Saturday February 27th my friends took me out to try Thai food for the first time. As we pulled into the parking lot I realized that my good friend, who is somewhat of an Asian food connoisseur, had mentioned that Thai Rama had quite good Thai food, so of course I expected it to be wonderful. We walked in and were seated right away, and were quickly waited on for drinks and appetizers, then after plenty of time to decide we were again speedily waited on. The atmosphere was somewhat reserved while the quiet traditional Thai music attributed to the calm mood that was set. When you want to have a loud fun time at a restaurant where no one gives you strange stares then this is not the restaurant, yet on the contrary, if you are looking for quiet meaningful conversations this would be the perfect atmospere to provoke such actions. Our food arrived quite quickly and we ate then were treated kindly after the waiter offered to go make 4 receipts for us because of our split money. The food was tasty and the service was lovely, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who can enjoy a relaxing dinner. Pros: Great service and rice! Cons: Syrup-y Teriyaki Chicken. more

Underwhelmed 2/8/2009

We were surprisingly UNderwhelmed by this restaurant based on the other's reviews. The beef in my dish was tough, they mixed up the heat and made my dish medium instead of mild and my boyfriend's came mild.\r \r While it wasn't bad food, I certainly wouldn't recommend it. more

I wanted it to be good. Really 4/25/2008

My husband and I went there because I looked it up on City Search and saw that it had really good ratings. Honestly, it's not that good. First, when we got there, we weren't greeted right away. When we DID get seated, the hostess wasn't that friendly. It was somewhat busy. Definitely NOT romantic. It reminded me of a Denny's, only small and quiet. And the music was depressing. \r The food: no. If I ever go back, I'll just have to try something else because the two dishes we tried, which should ALWAYS taste decent at a Thai restaurant, were not that great. I love pad thai with tofu and they BURNED THE TOFU! Wow. What a disappointment. Burnt tofu=burnt meal. You know, that charred flavor you should only have on BBQ. As for the Pad Si Euw or however you spell it, it was WAY too soft. They definitely put too much soy sauce or something. The meat wasn't that tender.\r I probably won't go back. Gotta stick to the ol' faithful. Pros: . . .Large Beverages? Cons: Not as good as everyone says and the service is bad more

Great spicy meal! 11/9/2007

We visited on a Friday evening. There is limited parking, but we got the last spot in the lot. We were seated right away. We ordered soup #18. Can't remember the name, but it was EXCELLENT. Also had garlic chicken and pad thai. We ordered them ""medium"" on the spicy scale and they were very spicy (which we like)! Both were very good dishes! The wait staff were all friendly. They messed up our order a bit (brought tea instead of coffee and forgot the side of peanut sauce), but they made everything right as soon as we told them, so we didn't mind. The restaurant is a bit loud, but well worth a visit. We will definitely go back! Pros: Food, food, food! more

Best Paht See-Iw in Phoenix 6/3/2007

This was a charming, little eatery that I would highly recommend to anyone that is looking for Thai, comfort food. The meal was impeccable from beginning to end. My party started off with the Poh 'Pia' Grohb which was a very tasty, vegetarian ensemble of spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce. Next, we indulged in the Gaeng Ped or Red Curry. It was a perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Finally, the Pah See-Iw or Noodles in soy sauce w/ tofu was splendid. It was full of fresh, steamed vegetables. Also, the service was fantastic and attentive. I will definitely be back! Pros: Quality of Food, Service more

Phenomenal Lunctime Value; Good Food; Can Be A Wait; Service Is Okay 10/22/2006

If you want value, go for lunch. For under $6 you get a big meal with tea, soup, thai roll. I recommend the #3 coconut milk yellow curry with chicken or #7 green beans with beef and curry. Medium is plenty spicy for most. Order mild if you don't like spice. \r \r For dinner, pricing is noticeably higher. Phat Thai tastes bland to me. Their soups in a flame heated bowl with shrimp are excellent. \r \r If you're looking for value, come for lunch. But dinner is good too. I agree that service is very matter of fact... I've often found it rude. But ignore that, and they serve you quickly and efficiently and the atmosphere and food and price are great. Pros: Lunch; Speed; Value Cons: Friendliness of Staff; Small Restaurant Can Fill Quickly more

Authentic Hot Thai Food - Only for serious eaters 4/20/2005

I have been eating here for over 10 yrs. It is the best Thai food I have had in the U.S. The food is SPICY HOT, so specify your preference (if mild). Pad Thai is best in Phoenix, I love the Eggplant or any curry dish. Regarding other reviews: The servers are from Thailand and speak little English - often rude white people see this as ""cold"" attitude - but they are just SHY! If you have to wait, well, what great tasting restaurant do you not have to wait for??? It is worth the wait, if you want authentic, spicy delicious food! Pros: Spicy Hot, Exotic Flavors, Big Portions Cons: No Reservations more

Hot lunch but cold servers 12/2/2002

The lunch special menu offers a wide variety and is affordable enough to do lunch on a regular basis, but the servers seem cold and do not happily answer questions. In fact, they often seem a little put out by yet another dumb question. That's okay, I didn't come to make new friends, I came to eat. The food is consistent and tasty. Pros: Affordable, Varied, Crowded Cons: Lack of parking, Server staff, Crowded more

  • In Short
Come lunchtime, Thai Rama is perennially packed with regulars hooked on heat, and it never dumbs down seasonings for the presumably gringo palate. Be careful. Lips could swell...
