Good Food - Bad Business Practices! 12/29/2007

We love the food here and order delivery from there often. However, the last time I ordered I tried to use a coupon they printed in their OWN menu for ""$5 off an order of $25 or more for take-out or DELIVERY"". When I mentioned this I was told that they only honor $3 off, not $5 for delivery. I said that the coupon clearly says for delivery orders, which brought an array of excuses of ""those are expired"" (which they clearly were NOT based on expiration date of Jan 1st 2008), ""they were misprinted so we are not responsible"" (coupons were part of glossy menus that we recieved multiple times over period of months, directly from their own delivery guys). Even after all this they refused to budge and honor the full advertised discount and I told them it was pretty unbeliveable they would risk running off a good customer forever over $2. I'm not sure if I'll ever order from them again after this, even though the food is great. Pros: Good Food Cons: Petty Business Practices more

Good food, compared to most Thai restaurants the portions are much bigger 10/7/2007

This place is small and simple. The decor is not impressive, however the food is delectable and the servings are a good size. I especially enjoy their barbeque chicken and pad thai. The staff are warm, welcoming and very attentive. The price is average. Parking are available at the back, validation are provided. Free parking are also available in front, however they tend to be full during peak hours. Pros: Tasty thai dishes more

Our Absolute Favorite! 7/8/2007

I like trying different places but also like having one favorite we can go to when we don't want to make a decision. This place is a real find for Pasadena - and I probably shouldn't write a review because I don't want more people to discover it. In any case, the prices here are lower than the rest of Old Town - it's like the restaurant hasn't discovered yet that they could charge more if they wanted. Well, maybe they have - they did just raise their prices recently but only by a dollar. Great ambiance - large, high ceilings, patio seating (on the street) and it's never been crowded when I've gone. More upscale food and more choices than fast-food Thai, bet less expensive than a place like Saladang. Again, I feel like I'm cheating them with the prices lower than comparable places. My favorites are the green curry and the thai dishes spring rolls - they have never failed. The only dish I haven't liked (tried it twice) is the duck salad - way way too salty both times - they have another duck dish you could try instead. My husband always gets the pad thai - I used to be sick of this dish because I'd gotten it made poorly at so many other standard Thai places, but the pad thai here is very good. Entrees, noodle dishes and lunch specials have very good prices. The wine is also less expensive than comparable places - I think a 1/2 carafe was $6 but they might have raised the price a little. They also have takeout. This is our default restaurant. Go here before it gets too popular! Pros: Better than similarly-priced Thai places, low alcohol prices, very nice atmosphere, outdoor seating (althoug on street). Cons: Parking is always tough in this area - we park on the street and walk a few blocks. more

I love this place! 11/19/2006

Great choices for vegetarians! The spicy eggplant dish is wonderful and cooked perfectly. Some of the other dishes are ok but if you are looking for a Thai place that has numerous vegetarian options, then this is the place and it is very affordable. Most dishes are around 6.00. Only negative is the atmosphere and they charge a 1.00 for a bowl of rice. Pros: Great vegetarian options, takeout and delivery available Cons: Charge for rice and parking is limited more

Best Thai Food 10/30/2006

My craving for pad thai led me to this place. I had a bad experience here a long time ago but found out it was under new ownership so I thought to check it out. It's changed dramatically. The food is good, servers are nice and I talked to the owner to let him know he's done a nice job. I'd eat here again. Pros: parking in back. food more

Good restaurant, Needs better service 4/20/2005

I've been a fan of Thai Dishes for over 10 years, however, this specific location is not up to par in comparison to the others. The food is the same as the locations, but the service needs to be improved. The different occasions I've been to this specific restaurant, the waitresses always seem a little unfriendly - not as accommating. Come here if you want the good food, but don't expect to be treated with friendly service. more

Substantial Scores all Around 4/5/2005

This elegant Thai restaurant serves superb food in a lovely uptown setting, at affordable prices. Everything about this restaurant impresses me. The service is prompt, pleasant and truly competent. The environment is lovely; serene decor in a remodeled old building with high ceilings, ample muted light, and comfortable seating. Their menu has variety, but includes all the old favorites - Chicken Satay, red/yellow and green Curries, and Cashew Chicken. Ingredients are fresh, and they offer a choice of white or brown rice. Prices are reasonable, especially given the fact that they offer better food than places just a few blocks away that charge a great deal more. The whole experience is worth repeating - over and over again. Pros: Serene environment, Excellent food, Reasonable prices more

Average only. 10/18/2004

This place is just average, no big deal. It is conveniently located on Colorado Blvd which makes it very easy to spot. I remember having a dish sometime ago (I think it was seafood pad see ew) I didn't enjoy it due to the over excess of vegetables like broccoli, it just killed it for me. Overall food was average, but service was superb. Also, the parking's almost slim to none at Colorado Blvd if you go on peak/weekend times. Pros: sevice, location Cons: , food more

Best Pad Thai! 9/23/2004

I love Thai food, and they have one of the best Pad Thai Noodles I've tasted! The taste and the consistency of the noodles are just right, and it's not spicy. Skip the Tom Yum soup though... it's not as flavorful as it should be. Overall, I've had a great experience every time. The price is right, and there's little wait. Since it's across the street from Paseo Colorado, we go there for dinner after shopping. Pros: Best Pad Thai, Inexpensive, Good service Cons: Parking more

pad see eww to die for 6/22/2004

i've eaten at thai food joints all around LA and IE. Thai Dishes is still my gold standard, i love the pad see eww there and its spicy counterpart pad kee maw. the only place i've had better pad kee maw is chan dara on larchmont. its cheap, the food is great, and there are a couple of cute waitresses Pros: food, waitresses, ambience more

Best Pineapple Fried Rice 10/24/2002

No matter how many times I come here, I ALWAYS get the Pineapple Fried Rice, which is as authentic as it gets. The other dishes are as good; Pad See Yew, Pad Thai, Curries, Spicy Beef salad, etc. Only drawback is that parking sucks, but you can always park at Paseo Colorado mall across the street. Pros: Food, Inexpensive Cons: Terrible parking more

Great Food 10/18/2002

If you want authentic Thai food, this is the place to go. The service was good and the prices were inexpensive. Thai Dishes is not very ""trendy"" but I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a nice place with good food. Pros: Cuisine, Inexpensive, Good Service Cons: None, None, None more

Good, not great, Thai Dishes 9/20/2002

This place is a staple. If you're looking for good thai food, and you're in old town, this place can't be beat. Consistently good, and the service is quick and friendly. The great part about this place is that it is fairly low priced. For that, I'd give this place a better than average rating. Definately not the BEST, but good enough when you're craving good Thai food on a budget. Decor is nice and romantic. Parking in pasadena is a pain, but you can easily find parking 2 blocks behind Thai Dishes. On sudays it's free, and ususally finding parking back there is no problem. Pros: Good Thai Food, Silver Noodles, Great Price more

Good value for your $ 6/13/2002

Lunch specials available with most of their popular menu items make going back painless. Service can vary depending on time of day. good, standard thai fare. more

Thai Standby 5/20/2002

Thai Dishes isn't as good (or as pricey) as Saladang, but the staple dishes are a better value. It seems the spring rolls are made in batches and less fresh late at night. But they're as good as spring rolls at high-end places. The chicken and vegetables is good, and the soups are better -- especially coconut chicken and seafood. The bbq chicken (Chicken on Fire) and curried dishes are reliable. There's a nice bar where you can watch TV (subtitles) and have a beer or iced tea while waiting for food to go. more

Great for lunch or dinner 5/15/2002

An unassuming spot with a high ceiling and mostly well-spaced tables. Service is brisk and the food is wonderful 9 times out 10. Their green curry with shrimp is excellent. Green tea ice cream is welcome treat to cool off after having some of the spicier dishes. Pros: quick service more
