On the look-out for James of Phi's Thai 12/6/2010

To all the fans of James who used to be the wok chef at the Hazel Park location, be on the lookout for where he ends up. Where James goes, so goes my taste-buds. The man is a wok artiste! I have heard a rumor he is starting his own restauraurnt somewhere around 15 and Mound. I hope that is true. I am in Sales and I cover most of Metro-Detroi Suburbs. Phi's Thai was the best I have ever had and James was a major part of that dynamic. I wish him much sucess whereever he goes. He will be missed until such time he emerges. ROBES more

What a major loss 8/15/2010

To start off, I have been eating Pi's Thai for about 5 years now, switching between the Sterling Heights and Hazel Park location. I preferred going to Hazel Park because of James the cook, who in my mind is a better cook than Mr. Pi. The portions and the hospitality at the Hazel park location were much greater than the restaurant on 16 mile and Dequindre. Unfortunately, James and his staff are no longer working at Mr. Pi's restaurant in Hazel Park. So, I did some research and talked to James. I found out he is in Thailand right now, will be back in September, and is opening up his own Thai restaurant somewhere on 15 and Mound area. I am so excited, and I can't wait. I just thought I would let everyone know. Mr. Pi lost the key to his success in my opinion. PASS IT ON! more

FRom the begining 2/4/2010

Before Pi's was Pi's it was a cheap burger joint. I lived in the neighborhood. When the cheap burger joint closed, the building went unused for a short period of time. Then a couple were to be seen inside, making repairs, Eventually the doors opened and Pi's Thai Cuisine was born. I have never had Thai before, and a friend and I decided to try it. We were amazed. The bursts of flavor and heat and sweetness combined to perfection. I was hooked. Since then I have tried many other Thai places, some good, others terrible, but NONE matches Pi's combinations and style and so far NO OTHER has even come close to Pi's Tom yum soup. I had moved to Texas some years back and lived there for two years. I would dream of Pi's and my eventual return. Once back in Michigan, A #9 Pad Ped (medium), and a Tom Yum Soup from Pi's was top on my priority to do list. Pros: Finest meats and seafood Cons: Small eat in area more

OH mY God it's Hot! 12/3/2009

I'm eating it right now, and it's great! But be careful, medium plus is about as hot as any sane person should go. Even medium hot is really too hot - but unlike almost every other Thai restaurant the heat does not mask the flavor and it's not just a bunch of pepper seeds thrown in as an after thought. I ordered #7 with shrimp and Tom Yum with chicken, both are excellent. I used to order food almost exclusively from SukhoThai, but that has quickly changed. I think I'll go with medium next time. Pros: Friendly staff/cook Cons: Medium plus is so hot more

HOT and SPICY lovers, rejoice! 5/11/2009

I've been going to Pi's and many other Thai food restaurants around metro Detroit and Phoenix for decades. I am hard pressed to think of another Thai restaurant that can churn out the hot and spicy like Pi's! Portions are good and the food is nothing short of great - every time. The Tom Yum (hot and spicy) soup is among the best I've ever had. Whether you're looking for a place to bring the heat, or want to keep it ""safe""....Pi's is full of great Thai flavor. Pros: Ultra hot and spicy Cons: Closed on Sunday more

best spice kick up the heat yum !!!! 6/20/2008

Great food, it's ideal for carry out unless you get lucky and a seat is open, a friend turned me on to this place about three years ago, and I fell in love, the cook is great at what he does and he is a people person very funny guy, rest of staff is very friendly and always smiling, I must recommend the S2 ( beef thai salad ) its by far the best dish you can ever treat your mouth to, I get it hot, but you might want to try it medium until you know what kind of heat you can handle, lol, If you like thai food, you will love this place. Pros: always great food Cons: not open sundays more

alex 4/10/2008

small place nothing fancy but really good food i love to eat there for luch or do carry out too. i wish they would open one in birmingham bloomfield area . The people are friendly , do not try medium spicy Because is extremly hot, try no spicy and take some of the liquid spicy sauce on the side that way you control how spicy you can handle. Pros: great food Cons: small place to dine better for carry out more

Best Thai food ever!!!! :-) 3/17/2008

I live Two blocks down from the this place yes it looks alittle run down but it is always clean on the inside very friendly, very busy around lunch time.\r Has a couple of tables to eat at! But it is a carry out place i've been going there for years food is all ways the same the best Thai food ever :-) I eat there once a week.\r \r :-)mmmmmm good :-) Pros: I live so close to the place Cons: Not open 7 days a week :-( more

Hot! So hot you will regret it. Awesome. 2/17/2008

Pi's is great. I have been to both the Pi's locations and the 10 Mile/John R is FAR better. The cook is really good, the food is great, and you get a good deal for the price.\r The cook is quite the accomplished T-shirt ninja too. I do personally beleive though that he likes to make the macho white guys sweat. He makes the food extra hot, as a personal sadistic pleasure. \r I tell folks to never order more than MEDIUM PLUS til they know they can handle it. \r I go whenever I can to eat there.\r Pros: good hot Thai food Cons: small dining area for anything larger the 3 or 4 people in a group more

Simply the best Thai food in Michigan. 1/31/2008

I've lived down the street from Pi's Thai restaurant for years. I've been eating there for years. I've also eaten at maybe 40 other Thai restaurants in my life.\r \r Pi's Thai is simply the Best Thai food I have ever had anywhere. It is absolutely the freshest food available, in fact, I have run into the woman who works there buying the vegetables and meat at Kroger down the street.\r \r The best. Thank you Pi. Pros: Great location, great people, spectacular food, best 8$ you'll spend Cons: You can't eat it every day more

Small restaurant with great cuisine! 7/21/2007

The first Thai food I had ever tried. After looking through the menu I tried the Goi Say Me (I probably spelled that wrong). Quite simple the best tasting food I have ever had ... bar none. I have since tried many other Thai restaurants. All at least good, many great, but N4 at PI's is unmatchable. I have also tried two other dishes there and they were also exceptional.\r If good things come in small packages, then PI's is a perfect example. As small restaurant with great cuisine, that never disappoints! Pros: The food! more

Best Thai food on the planet!!! 3/25/2006

I have been visiting this restaurant every week for over 5 years. The food is possibly the freshest of any restaurant I've been to. Pi offers a wide variety of dishes. I recommend the #23. If you like HOT food, you will love this place. If you are wary, start out with a mild dish. If I were on Death Row, Pi's Thai would be my last meal. more

Favorites: Pad Thai Pad Prik Spicy Noodles Homemade springrolls with sauce Chicken Tom Yum soup Pros: FRESH, HOMEMADE DAILEY, REASONABLY PRICED Cons: SMALL FACILITY, ALWAYS PACKED more
