My husband and i had visited The Texan when it was owned and run by 'Bud' Levell, out on 79
He is a terrific person with a huge amount of integrity and a great sense of humor. He sold the Texan to it's current owner due to some health issues. I had anticipated so much better when we revisited it after its sale and relocation to Hutto; we were terribly disappointed.
I ordered the garden vegetable soup( it was the middle of August, so that tells you how much I like soup) It tasted like the vegetable scrapings from the chefs prep work, thrown into a pot and boiled to hell.
My husband ordered the pot roast and mashed potatoes. He liked the pot roast, but commented to me that the potatoes had a strange taste. I tasted them and told him they had used old butter, rancid butter, something left in the walk-in for a couple of days with out a cover.
When we brought it to the chef's attention his comment was ""we sell a lot of them.""
I know Bud, and when I told him about this he just shook his head and sighed.Shame on you chef, for taking a Texas icon to base levels.
