Temple Bar 5/7/2006

Temple Bar is all that's left of Nick's Beef and Beer House. Those with memory can remember the 1/2 rroasted chicken and the pitchers of bar or root beer and the dark red lighting. What was a working class chicken and lamb place became an upscale alternative to Grafton's. The Temple bar is professionals, With perhaps a few professors and some mainstream white collar thrown in. There is some of the Boston bridge-and-tunnel feel, if that's not too much of a stretch. The acoustics are shrill but the decor is fine. You will be jammed into a crowds a little the way you want to be at the Temple Bar. No religion here -- just good times and good old boys. more

Good Place, but Spotty Service 4/22/2006

I will say that the ambience here is quite nice, and the place is quite large considering the location. The drinks are good, and the appetizers are very good. However, the service is a mixed bag. We went with a group (a happy hour for a college alumni association for some out of state schools). It was midweek during a slow time of year, and we started on the early side. They made us leave our meeting area (where we were comfy in the cozy chairs) and all push up to the front. Then they kept coming over to tell us not to crowd around (there weren't even that many of us). It wasn't a fire code thing since we weren't blocking anything. The place never got crowded, yet they seemed constantly concerned that we were in the way. Really annoying and rude. Parking is a big pain, but it's very convenient to Central Square T stop. more

Great Place to start your evening 2/4/2006

The Temple Bar in Cambridge is a cozy place to gather with your friends for a drink or bite to eat. Their menu includes modern American cuisine and has something to please everyone's pallate. This bar is extremely cozy with tons of comfortable seating and warm lighting. The crowd is sophisticated but not pretentious. It's one of my favorite hangouts in Cambridge. more

  • The Scene
Located between Harvard and Porter Squares, Temple Bar lures young professionals and local residents with a well-rounded menu and plenty of stylish liquid concoctions (Key lime martins, pineapple-infused vodka drinks). Exposed brick walls, low-hanging lamps, stylish furniture and dark lacquered tabletops provide a touch of elegance to an otherwise relaxed environment. Pleasant servers reveal their favorite menu items and deliver dishes from the rear kitchen.

    The Food
Temple Bar's upscale comfort fare includes options for both barflies and serious-minded foodies. Popular starters include fried Rhode Island calamari, tossed with honey peppers, and seared beef carpaccio with tangy preserved lemon gremolata, aged Gouda and white truffle oil. Flat-bread pizzas (toppings include Spanish olives, radicchio pesto and Manchengo cheese) and pulled chicken sandwiches are ideal for bar patrons. Classic steak frites gets a kick thanks to lavender aioli and house-cured fries. Desserts include tiramisu (made with homemade espresso Creme Anglaise) and mango creme brulee.
