Dropped in on a Friday afternoon in the middle of lunchtime, around 12:30. My roommate, Dave, and I were very hungry, and my only experience to date with Ted's Place came when I'd poked my head in months ago on the walk home from the train and asked if they sold pizza by the slice. They do not.\r
So Dave and I were instructed to seat ourselves, and grabbed a table in a fairly busy dining room. A young lady came by with menus for us and came by again a few minutes later to take our order. I asked what she'd recommend, to which she responded with my most hated of all responses, ""Everything is good.""\r
Just in case, I had a backup plan and quickly ordered an italian grinder without the onion. Dave went with what he had the last time he got Ted's food, a chicken cheesesteak. He raved about the last one he had.\r
10 minuites later or so, the food came out, followed by our drinks (grrr). But that was the end of my complaints. The grinder was excellent, with good portions and fresh meat. The roll was crispy but not overcooked, and the meat was just slightly cooked at the top of the sandwich, just perfectly made. \r
Dave's chicken cheesesteak was not what he remembered it to be. The last one he had was bigger and had the cheese cooked throughout the meat. This one was smaller (though still a reasonable portion) and suffered from one of the greatest cheesesteak maladies of all time - cheese melted on top. In doing so, Ted's doomed Dave to a lunch frought with the unpleasant task of picking cheese out of his front teeth, an inconvenience that could so easily have been circumvented with just a little extra effort, a little foresight, a little compassion. The best place will mix the cheese in with the meat, and the second best place will put in beneath the meat. But it should never go on top.\r
Ultimately, my only disappointment came in the waitress not trying to make more of serving her guests; if you have to do it, you might as well do it well. So I recommend the food - to go.
Pros: Excellent food, good prices, prompt service
Cons: Promptness was only good part of service
