I've been going to Ted Peters for over 20 years, and I became use to the poor service and attitudes from the employees. It was kind of a joke to my friend and I over the years as to how long it would be until we got service at the small bar area out front. In the early 90's we would go there on a Sunday to eat and watch a little football on their 20"" T.V. We would sit there for 15 to 20 minutes with no menu, drinks or food in front of us, most employees would ask us what the score was even though they could plainly see we had no drinks or menus. Even the manager would stand right by us talking about the game but never asked us if we needed anything. After a while of being ignored, I guess the wait staff realised we weren't going anywhere and would serve us. We looked at it as part of the ""experiance"" and just delt with it. That was when I was a single young guy with a whole day to waste.\r \r I hadn't been there since the late 90's and went back there last week; what a HUGE MISTAKE!!! The prices have gone way up while it seems the portions have gone down. The service is still horrible, I think their servers are ex-driver's licence office employees. My friend and I basically had to argue with the server to get extra napkins and a refill of our drinks, it's like they train the servers to be rude. The fish spread is still awesome and the salmon is really good but to expensive for what you get now.\r \r Anyhow, I wouldn't take anyone there again, I might go back sometime when I feel my ego needs to knocked down a notch or two, or when I want to be left alone. more

I've lived in St. Pete for about 10 years and this place has been going down hill rapidly over the past fives years. So much so i'm compelled to leave you, a possible out-of-towner to go somewhere else. On our most recent experience I took my wife and daughter for lunch. Upon arrival we stand wait for about five minutes for someone to seat us as the sign says ""Please wait to be seated"". It was clear the employees that were chatting it up right next to where we standing felt it was not their job to seat people. After five minutes I gave one of them a stern look and she tells me to sit wherever I'd like. - Unbelievable. Next although there are only 5 items on the menu (no, really) when the waitress came we asked for a couple more minutes to order so we could sort out our little one. She was clearly annoyed. I decided on the smoked mullet ""platter"" to the tune of about $9. For some reason their idea of a ""platter"" is to give you a slice of onion and tomato with your order. I asked the waitress if it should come with the potato salad and she said that was an additional $3. Although the fish did taste good it's not worth that kind of money, especially for florida and especially considering the other great places to eat in that area. Needless to say we won't be going back, ever and I urge you to read some of the other comments located here as a trend of nasty service, high prices and small portions have seem to become the norm. Worst service ever! This restuarant doesn't even deserve 1 star. I took my wife and son here after we saw it on food network. After sitting down and asking some simple questions about the choices on the menu, we were talked down to, rushed and just treated terribly. We didn't stay long enough to get our food. Nothing short of WOW!!! Just watched a Food Channel short on Ted Peter's. Having moved from the Bay Area and now living in Montana has kept me from TP. My loss. TP is fantastic. The wonderful smell of the smoking fish is just the beginning of the experience. I hear they have the best burger but I can never get past placing the same order. Start with the smoked fish spread and then some of the warm German potato salad before a monster slab of smoked fish. I prefer the salmon. Wash it down with a clod beer or a gigantic glass of iced tea. Always enough fish for a to go box. Even the bread is great. I can't wait to go back to Florida to visit family and spend some time at a TP picnic table. Service is quick and personable. Prices fair. Yummo!\r \r I read the bad review. Something fishy there. Food and service are horrible. Can anyone tell me why it smells like a dirty tennis shoe being cooked on a grilll/barbeque? I was advised to eat there by a local who raved and was totally disappointed. I think all the same people who have been going to this place since the beginning of time are the only ones who like it. Ted's little hideaway is my favorite stop when visiting the area .. I have been their dozens of times .. I even have shipped spread home on ocfcasion .. From smoked fish to cheeseburgers .. Plain and simple here. Works some places but when the service is as bad as we had and the food as pricey, it don't work. Needs updating and some decent staff and management. This place just might as well close its doors, its nothing like it use to be. The food is so way overpriced, the service is absolutely horrible. I and my wif have never seen such a miserable display of waitresses in one place, constantly arguing over people in front of tables,(one even rubbing and changing her shoes with a hand washing) spinning menus through the air onto the tables, short and curt, rude responses cause of our questions. The menu was very small, the smell of gas and oil permeated the entire place because of the heavy traffic just a few feet from the tables or a car parked with its bumper just 1 foot away from you. You are expected to hurry after being charged something like 75 dollars for our party of three. Ted Peters is a local favorite. With its casual atmosphere, you can come as you are! The menu is mostly seafood with a few land lover options. The price is reasonable. more

The menu was a page and a half with items spaced far apart. There were a few smoked fish dishes and fish spread sandwich options and clam chowder, but I don't like seafood (was dragged in by my mother) and there were only 2 (technically 3) non-seafood options of ""Jumbo hamburger,"" ""Jumbo Cheeseburger,"" and ""hot dog."" I got a hot dog with cheese added, which was good, but it was like any small, store-bought hot dog in a bun. The Key Lime pie slice was pretty good, though, but it was the only dessert choice. Also, the place is cash-only, which made us stop at the bank before going, which is pretty annoying. The seats were all hard wood, too, which kinda hurts if you have a bad back like I do. I've tried smoked fish in many states, but find the smoked mullet here one of the best. Yes, its bony, but if you're not on a ""first date"" and don't mind getting your fingers dirty, then it shouldn't bother you. The mackerel was just ok for me. The potato salad was similar to ""home fries"", and not what I consider to be true potato salad, but ok for people who like that, just not for me. Parking is very difficult. Yes, this is a local place Thang, so deal with it. Service is perfect for atmosphere, nice, fast and efficient. Fish dip is the best around topped off with Crystal Hot Sauce. Best burgers anywhere and adding a side of potatoe salad, this is the perfect look at old Florida around. Ted Peter's Famous Smoked Fish must be a local THANG. My guest and I tried the burgers, potatoe salad, cole slaw and fish spread. The burgers were OK but not outstanding, the potato salad was very good, but it's potato salad... how good does potato salad get? Cole slaw was nothing special and the HIGHLY TOUTED SMOKED FISH SPREAD was not appreciated by my girlfriend. In all fairness, I thought it was INTERESTING? All in all Ted Peter's doesn't add up to it's outstanding reviews. Their policy on beer sales only with food purchase is strange. El Cap's and particularly Capt. Al's has a much better burger.
