I recently had my taxes done by Toni at Tax Solutions. I have been going there for 10 years and had an issue 5 years ago that caused me to be audited by the IRS. The tax preparer processed two Dependent Care Spending accounts, when it is against tax regulations to exceed the dependent care spending limit. Since my husband I do not know anything about processing taxes, we did not know there was an error. Six months later we were audited by the IRS. Tax Solutions stated we did owe $1200.00 and they were sorry, but that would be it. When people or businesses make mistakes, I understand that things happen and we felt that we would stay with Tax Solutions since they had apologized.\r
In 2010, while preparing to have my return done, I noticed that on my 2009 taxes that were done by Toni (she stated she was an ex-CFO and doing taxes temporarily while finding employment after a recent layoff), an error was made on the deductions line. Obviously it was an error because Toni had put an $850,000.00 deduction in my return. I called Tax Solutions immediately, explained the issue and was told that Toni would call me back before my appointment which was in a few days. I never received a call back. \r
When I showed up for my appointment, Toni was conveniently not there and I was given a tax preparer that had just started with the company. After sharing my issue with the 2009 return, she had me work with Liz who did an amendment. The amendment showed that I had owed $1317.00 in 2009, but because I had received a refund, I also owed for that, so the grand total owed was now $3338.00. Why do I owe this? Because Tax Solutions made yet another mistake!! I asked to speak with Art Douglas, the owner. They told me he would call me, he did not. I called again and left yet another message. Art finally called my cell phone after I requested my home phone be called and he left a message stating the following: “We do regret the mistake, but the full amount is owed. Luckily we caught in time so there are no penalties.” Excuse me, I caught the error, Tax Solutions did not. Art refused to pay any portion of the tax and will not call me back. \r
One of Art’s long time employees, Dotty, even said to me, “well what do you expect for $90.00 to do your taxes? We are not accountants”. I had no idea they were not accounts. I pay them money each year and expect my taxes to be accurate. Is it me, or is that an unreasonable expectation? I did not pay $90.00 for mistakes and I feel that the way in which this company has handled this issue is less than professional, rude and unacceptable. DO NOT USE TAX SOLUTIONS, THEY ARE AN INCOMPETENT BUSINESS.\r
