TRS has had my info for 21 months. As a non-custodial parent, the IRS challenging me listing my children as dependents when I had a court decision allowing me to claim them and an 8332 signed by my ex-spouse allowing me to claim them. The TRS representative said that he had everything he needed to prove my case a year ago, and told me to expect a decision within 30 days. 350 days later, still no refund. TRS representatives often do not return calls or e-mails, and promise to call you and notify you about the status of a certain issue on a certain date and then don't call or notify you. I had the individual I am supposed to communicate with change four times during this period without explanation. I have been requested to provide documents I had previously provided them repeatedly, sometimes being asked to send them documents I had previously sent three times where they had confirmed receipt. When I signed up and paid my fee I was told they would stop the IRS levy/garnishment process, but 16 months after they had taken the case and with the case still pending resolution they recommended I pay in full while the case was being considered by the IRS. I followed their recommendation and later found out from the IRS that this would close off some of my opportunities to appeal, something the TRS legal experts failed to inform me about. By prepaying the IRS pending resolution of the case, this set in motion my state coming after me, as the department of revenue got word from the IRS that I had paid the federal government as if I had fewer dependents, and then they demanded additional charges and penalties. The TRS representative said the state action had nothing to do with me prepaying the IRS pending resolution, but the state representative at the department of revenue confirmed that that was the reason they were demanded the additional taxes and penalties. When I confronted the TRS staff about this, I received no explanation. I had my state refunds and economic stimulus rebate seized and continued to get harassing letters from the IRS. In June the TRS representative told me the IRS had essentially agreed to everything and that I had won. Three and a half months later I have not received a penny back of the more than $3000 I am owed, and the TRS representatives have been ineffective or unresponsive in getting the IRS to issue their final report and refund the money the representative told me I was going to get back three months ago. With the fees I paid TRS and the amount of money I have prepaid the IRS and had seized by the IRS I am out more than $6000 and this case is still unresolved, 21 months after TRS took my money and started working on it.
