Tasaka Guri Guri is a Maui phenomenon. I’ve never heard a single local person tell me they didn’t love it, and if they did, I blocked it out. Please don’t compare Guri Guri to ice cream because it’s just not the same product. The unfair comparison has no reflection on the quality of Tasaka Guri Guri. Like the taste of an apple has no reflection on the quality of an orange. If you want to compare Tasaka Guri Guri to another Guir Guir that’s fine. If you've never had it, try it. FIVE STARS. more

Tasaka Guri Guri - Hawaii's sorbet 4/12/2006

What’s guri guri? It’s a sherbet like frozen dessert, mixed with a bit more cream and some other secret ingredients. What results is a semi solid sherbet that is served into small paper cups. It comes in two flavors, strawberry and pineapple. Both taste like the artificial flavors, but are refreshingly satisfying. Order two scoops of one flavor or get a combination of both. The Tasaka Guri Guri shop has just one store, located on Maui. Stop by after to you arrive on Maui, or stop by before leaving Maui. It’s a stone’s throw from the airport. Neighbor island visitors can call in and have quarts of the dessert packed and frozen solid. This will last approximately 90 minutes, so you’ll have to plan carefully. more

I scream for Ice-Cream! 10/27/2005

This has been the best ice-cream I've ever had! No one can beat this place. Ever since I was a little girl, this has been the place to go for a cool treat. Now I can take my children here and they can make their own memories. Prices are reasonable, ranging from $1 to $5, for 2-5 scoops. You can bring home a pint to enjoy some guri guri at home. Flavors available are strawberry and pineapple. Occasionally, they'll offer orange also. Because it is family owned and operated, you get to see the same friendly faces each time you go. more

Another taste of Maui 8/28/2005

If you like ice cream, then you should try Guri Guri. You can find them in the mall next to the Pet Store (behind Long's Drugs and behind Subway Sandwiches.) When it's hot, lines are long. You will know you are near when you start seeing happy people slurping something out of a small paper cup. Great flavors, so try more than one. more

Would be 5 star perfect if they stayed open longer! 8/20/2005

If you are visiting Maui from anywhere and you love ice cream variants, you owe it to yourself to stop by and pickup a few gallons of Tasaka Guri Guri! What's it made of? Ice cream and some other stuff, no one really knows, or has replicated the formula. The consistency is kinda like a sherbet but has a great ice cream taste. The strawberry and mango flavors are my personal favorite. The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that these guys are crazy. They only make a certain amount of the "ice cream" and once they sell out, they close the store! How crazy does that sound! They could be bajillionaires if you ask me! more

Like ice cream 8/15/2005

If you like ice cream, then you have to stop by Tasaka's Guri Guri shop, which is located in the Maui Mall behind Subway. It's not ice cream, but its probably best described as soft ice cream. It's cold, it's tasty, and when it's hot and humid and the sweat starts to pour down you, that's the time to stop by Tasaka's. You'll be glad you did. more

Behind Long's Drugs 8/7/2005

Located in the Maui Mall, behind Long's Drugs, Tasaka Guri Guri sells an extremely popular dairy product that usually is referred to as a cross between sherbert and ice cream. You can get strawberry, or local flavors like pineapple. On hot days, the line will start at lunch and will be there until they close in the evening. This is a popular spot to stop after going to the movies in the Wallace Theaters in the same mall. more
