Best

Delicious, hot and flavorful food! I we LOVED the chicken tikka masala and the curry chicken!!

Worst

Mediocre food. Chicken Tikka Masala was a bit too sour. Spinach was watery. Reasonably priced lunch buffet at $9.95, but then they charge you $3 for a drink! No one checked in on ...

Bland Indian, Bad raita, Mediocre Service 3/2/2007

I have been to this restaurant on four different occassions in over four years and have been consistently disappointed. Although I asked for the food to be spicy (which the rude waiter kept insisting may be too hot) the food was mild at best and not seasoned well. The chicken tikka was tasteless, the saag paneer greasy and tasteless, the mango chicken greasy and tasteless...you can see a pattern here. Their tandoori meats seem not to be marinated long enough. On top, it is somewhat expensive. I can think of 4 to 5 better Indian restaurants in the valley with better food and at least friendly service. Pros: centrally located, good parking Cons: bland food, mediocre service, waiters don't follow instructions more

I love the Oven 11/19/2006

Clay Oven has the best curries in LA for my taste buds. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma are just the best. Great Naan, great veggie dishes, and King Fisher beer (the best indian beer)! Their grilled meats are good, but not the best in the area, and I say stick with the curry style dishes because they are the best!\r \r I like to sit out on the patio and take my time, which they are more than willing to allow (I've never felt ""rushed"" there). I've been to this place over 20 times and will keep going. Pros: Curry style dishes, service, Kingfisher more

Delicious!! 9/23/2006

Clay Oven's ambience and staff is very inviting and exotic. The late hours on Fridays and Saturdays are a HUGE PLUS, but that doesn't mean anything if the food wasn't scrumptious. The food is just AMAZING, when you order your dish the food is placed on these mini tea light warmed copper pans, so it makes it easy to share with friends!\r more

Great Food, Good Company 1/9/2006

A group of my friends & I were out and about in the valley and our appetites were calling out for food. We opted out on fast food and drove by Clay Oven thinking it would be closed by now...about closer to 11ish at night. Low and behold there were patrons inside and in the patio. The sign in front read ""Open until midnight Fridays & Saturdays"" or close to something of that nature. We were just in luck and were seated promptly. The Kababs and Chicken Tandoori were great starters sizzling from the hot plates. We ended up ordering lamb, shrimp, some vegetable dishes and kept on ordering more of the garlic naans. Nothings better than great food with good company. Pros: open late, food more

Excellent Choice 12/2/2005

Never let's me down, excellent food!! Extra spicy is the way to go!! Cons: Service a little slow more

GO FOR THE FOOD! 10/1/2005

I've tasted Indian Food throughout the Valley restaurant and by far, Clay Oven tops them all. The flavors and ingredients are so good that it brings me back for more. The Chicken Tikka Masala is a must try dish! Friendly service. Pros: Food , Flavor , Price more

How disappointing--bland Indian?! 9/26/2005

We've been to this restaurant twice, and both times, the vegetarian entrees tasted utterly bland and the vegetables themselves looked like they came straight out of the frozen food section at Ralph's. The chicken dishes are a mixed bag--the tikka was good, but the lasooni was dry and too heavy on the cilantro. We're not going back for strike three... Cons: bland food, bland food, bland food more

Best Indian Food, Service and Ambience 8/24/2005

The food is so good at this place. I recently went with my Indian friend and he was commending the chef with each bite of the food we ordered. Besides the exceptional garlic Nan, the Chicken Coconut Curry, Spinach Sag with Tofu and the Chicken Tika Masala have all become my favorites. They serve the food in bowls raised above tea light candles which seem to float over the dining table. Eating family style is so much fun at this place. Clay Oven has this cool mix of first class service, but with a laid back dining experience - you can even watch Bollywood videos on the flat screen tvs scattered around the restaurant. I can't say how much I enjoy this place. Pros: food, service, ambience Cons: the regular nan, order the garlic nan more

First Rate Indian Food 1/22/2005

I've been to virtually every top Indian place in LA, and this one is definitely tops! Nice ambience, good service, but the food is truly fantastic. The tandoori lamb chops and chicken coconut curry were out of this world. The vegetarian curries were bursting with flavor and complex spices. Can't wait to go back! Pros: Great Food more

Come back for more! 12/13/2004

My girlfriend and I just had dinner over the weekend with another couple and it was quite busy. We were seated promptly with courtesy. We've eaten at other restaurants before but none has made their chicken tikka masala as good as Clay Oven's. Our friends were quite impressed too since it was their first time here and our fifth or sixth time. The wine and music just made it even better for our double date. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, price more

DELICIOUS 11/6/2004

Lots to say! We had dinner in Clay Oven on November 5 and was looking forward to write my experience to people who are fans of indian food and to those who are not, I recommend this indian cuisine. You will love it. I loved the Ambience, Beautiful chairs and silverware. Service on top of the line, It was crowded when we got there. Our waitress was very friendly, and she was also very professional. But we did not enjoy waiting for the food. We were waiting for almost an hour, but in the beginning the belly dancer entertained us. We ordered lot of food, I highly recommend Chicken tika masala to everyone. IT WAS VERY VERY DELICIOUS! Overall food and service was great and we will go back again. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience more

MMMM....Good 10/22/2004

As a world traveller, I have tasted food in India and Clay Oven is the best restaurant by far that serves authentic Indian food for those who have not been to India. Namely, chicken tikka masala and saag (spinach) tofu. Yes, tofu! It's delicious and nutritious. Moreover, eating it with the fresh garlic naan makes you want to savor for more. The service was prompt and friendly. I dine in and order food to go every other week. Come try it for yourself! Pros: Delicious Food, Parking, Service more

Pretty Good food, Friendly Service 2/26/2004

We dined at this place for their buffet lunch and was quite impressed with their food. Albeit, they had pretty basic Indian-style foods, nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, we enjoyed their food and friendly service. You have to try their bottomless chai tea! It is AWESOME! They did take quite awhile to bring out more but as soon as they did, there was a mini-line that followed to get more of this tea. I agree with some of the other reviews about their slow service, but at least they were pretty friendly. I'd recommend it to anyone who has a craving or would like to try some Indian food...we'd definitely go back again! Pros: Not crowded, Families, Tasty foods more
