Editorial review from Citysearch 2/14/2014

Nothing stood out to me about the food here except that it was good. The place has a secret menu so if you're hard core like my friend be sure to ask for it. I stuck with my usual beef bowl and tempura. Both were good. more

Eating here is a gamble 11/28/2008

We are locals by the lake and so my wife and daughter and I used to go to Ta-ke sushi due to its convenient location. The food was okay, so we didn't mind it being so overpriced. However, since the last several ventures there, we feel that it's not worth the gamble. The service which was usually inconsistent has at times been okay except the time when we were completely forgotten and waited 30 minutes in a back booth and despite the many times we asked for service we were kept waiting. I know this may seem hard to believe but they offered us free mochi and my daughter was happy. Despite such a fluke we went there again months later. Our waitress took our orders and then brought out my wife's and daughter's bento box. From this point she never checked in on our table again, forgetting water, soy sauce bowls, and my food. I waited 30 minutes for my food which of course came after my wife and daughter were finished eating. I had to ask another waitress to help, meanwhile our waitress was looking busy doing random things and joking with the bus boy. Again, the mochi dish we were given was the prescribed ""I'm sorry."" The sushi was not very good quality either and we felt rather robbed. We now go a bit farther for better sushi and service at a cheaper price. Pros: Free mochi with horrible service Cons: Free mochi with horrible service more

Best Tempura Roll! 1/15/2008

Beware the ""n*zi waitress"" is back! \r \r She's a little friendlier thias time around, I also noticed that if you leave her a tip she'll actually smile and tell you to have a ""good day""\r \r Now back to the food! The Roll Combination, Spicy Tuna Tempura, California Rolls, Teriyaki Chicken, Fried Fish and the green salad with Miso dressing are excellent! \r \r If you make an order to go make sure to double check your order and make sure they put some salad dressing on your salad, (this has happened to me numerous times)\r \r Not to mention that if you go before the lunch special is over you will actually save money and have enough left over to leave our beloved waitress a tip.\r \r Hope this review helps! Pros: Go for the food Cons: the weird waitress who reaches over you to refill soy sauce bottles while you're eating! more

Decent Sushi, very reasonable party platters and happy hour 10/11/2006

How funny someone mentioned the ""stern"" waitress. We called her ""The Sushi N*zi"" and yes, she's moved on. After all the abuse I admit i miss her a little. BUT...it is a good, accomodating place for a casual party and if you want sushi at a party at home - their platters are a stunning value. Their bento boxes are good and the wait is never too long. more

Good Local Sushi Place 6/22/2006

I've been going to Ta-Ke Sushi for about a decade now, and other than occasionally spotty service depending on the waitress, I've never had a complaint. Another reviewer mentioned the ""stern waitress."" I know EXACTLY who they are talking about and, thankfully, she finally seems to have moved on. I also agree that this is not the best sushi around, but it's darn good, fairly priced, and very conveniently located, just a few blocks off of 580 and just up from Lake Merrit. Ta-Ke Sushi is also very kid friendly. The children's plates are ample and tasty (I will confess to poaching a nibble or two off my kids' plates regularly), and the staff is very nice to the kids. Pros: Food, Kid Friendly Cons: Occasionally Spotty Service more

ONLY GOOd FOR SO LONG 7/27/2005

Take sushi used to be a favorite sushi place--the main thing being there golden gate roll with ahi all over the top. My rooommate and I brought over 25 dinner parties and have gone thre numerous times on other occassions. We've got pictures still up on thier wall. Looking back we've probably spent close to $3,000 dollars there. We bought about $50 of sushi to go, we look inside and there's no miso. We ask why and she points to a size 10font on the back page of the menu that says no miso to go. I've worked at a restaurant for 4 years and I've never been so insulted as to the respect for customers. I understand that customers aren't always right--believe me. No disrespect for anyone but the ""stern"" waitress, and we told her we would never go there again and its been almost a year! ( Pros: food, food, food Cons: stern waitress, stern waitress, stern waitress more

great service 8/25/2002

Ta-Ke is not the best sushi I've ever had. It is, however, a good local sushi spot worth visiting when Tachibana, Sushi Groove or Kirala are just too far. The service is friendly and fast paced. Try the Oshitoshi and sashimi. more
