Avoid this Vet! 2/4/2013

Places like Sylvan disgust me. Do yourself a favor and don't bring your dog here or any animal for that matter. I took my dog, Chunk, here for his yearly vaccines. I got Chunk from a shelter in California in February of last year and he has been well taken care of with no vet visits since April of last year. I found Sylvan online and really liked how their site said that the money that the clinic makes goes towards the rescue. Well it should have said that in order to do that they do unnecessary testing and charge you for things that they don't actually do. They charged me $45 for an exam that they didn't do. They gave Chunk his rabies, bortadella, and distemper.... that was it. At one point they looked at his teeth and said that I should get them scaled. They also decided to give him a heartworm/ lyme disease test even after I protested and said that he didn't need one since I live in NYC and ticks aren't an issue (I was visiting my grandmother and find it easier to take him in MA tha more

It was just an extra $40 that they could add on. \r \r All in all, they charged me $87 for an exam, blood disposal, and heartworm test that they didn't actually perform or I didn't want. What I actually went there for cost $56. So way to go for making money for the shelter by ripping people off. more

I have been taking my animals here for years - two dogs, two rabbits, and now a FIV+ cat. I have ALWAYS had a great experience with the staff and Vet's. They have been wonderful to deal with and compared to other clinics they are a very low cost clinic. ( I have called around to SEVERAL clinics in the FR, Westport, and Taunton area) They treat your pet as if it was their own. more

Crazy Clinic 3/26/2012

same thing here needed cost effective spay for my little feline, (she cost me 50bucks). They wanted six times that. There's no way i'm paying that much. The poor thing I feel sorry for her when she is in heat. However I feel sick to my stomach when I think of how human greed Is whats preventing her from getting it. Animals are so much more beautiful than humans will ever be! more

LOW COST -- MY A - -! 1/11/2012

I called for a quote to get my cat spayed and it was $185 PLUS another $35 for ""an exam"". What a joke! This is supposed to be a ""low cost"" facility? In relation to what? Even without the ""exam"", they're outrageous. THEY need the exam, not the pets! more

Watch for Pricing 7/3/2011

I have taken advantage of this ""low cost"" place to help me with routine vet needs for my dog and cat for the last 3 years. Just last week I made an appointment for my dog to have ""nails but & anal glands taken care of"". They gave me an appointment, I went and the bill was $55! At check out they informed me that every visit requires a physical. I said why didn't you tell me that when I made the appointment. And...what physical? The vet asked me how she was lately and weighed her. I didn't ask for that and they made me pay for it. The visit should have been $20 +-. more

Dr. Cynthia Comstock, FANTASTIC 11/14/2010

I have been taking my animals to Sylvan for quite some time. They are fantastic! We had Dr. Steve most of the time. Recently we brought in our 17 year old Cocker Spaniel, who we thought we would have to put to sleep, but with the patience of Dr. Cynthia Comstock, she took her time in examining her and because of her diligence my dog is doing better each day. This doesn't mean she will live forever, but the time that she does have left will be less painful for her. more

vet asst 9/19/2010

i worked at sylvan animal clinic in 2007-2008. Dr Steve is the best!!! we were like a family and took awesome care of the animals but the place needed to be renovated..we needed more space for all the customers we had.we worked long hrs sometimes til 11 at night.i recommend sylvan to everyone for good affordable vet care..the place has been renovated since the new person took the whole building over..they are board members that decide what goes on in clinic and owns it more

Dr Jill Roberston 8/20/2010

I can not say enough about the clinic and Dr Robertson. She is very informative and compasionet towards the animals. the animals well being is her number one priority. I have been going to the clinic now for several years and now ask for Dr Robertson. The renovations the have been doing look great. more

Sylvan Animal Clinic is top notch for the price 9/26/2009

We took our cat there for her spay and rabies shots. Clinic is clean, and professional. They do seem to be busier then normal vets but that doesn't take away from their quality. If your looking for cheaper vet care and spay/neuter then this is a great place. They are avail. for follow ups. I give them two thumbs up. Very pleased w/ the prices and services. more

Excellent Care and Prices 9/26/2009

Sylvan is a great place for cheaper vet care w/ trained staff and very clean. They did seem to be a busy clinic but definitely had enough staff on hand. The staff was friendly and office was clean and seemed well suited for the volume of clients they set appointments for. If your looking for low cost spay/neuter this is definitely the best place on the south coast. Their prices for vaccines is better then average. Couldn't have asked for better quality care for the price. Part of the fee also helps fund the Faxon animal rescue which is major plus, helping others as well as your pet. Only con is parking in rear is a little tight so get there early as alternative parking is parallel street parking. Pros: prices, care, clean, well staffed Cons: parking but hardly a major con more

Sylvan Animal Clinic offers excellent basic care 9/7/2009

Our experience with the Sylvan Clinic was great. They offer very low cost spay/neuter and vaccines. They are not a full-service vet. They are a clinic. (Because of the low prices, people use them as the primary vet care for their animals.) For emergency care I would go elsewhere. They are not intended or set up to be an emergency clinic. But for basic care - low cost vaccines and especially for spay/neuter I would highly recommend them. They are very nice and the clinic is clean and comfortable. more

Sylvan offers great basic care 9/7/2009

Sylvan Animal Clinic fills an urgent need by offering low cost spay/neuters in a clean, comfortable setting. They also offer basic care such as nail clipping and vaccines. They are not set up to be an emergency facility. We found the staff to be friendly and caring. These folks are obviously in it for the animals as they can not be making any real money here. The prices they charge most likely cover their costs and maybe help support the shelter next door. I would highly recommend this shelter for routine care. Please spay/neuter your pets - at this clinic there is no excuse not to. Pros: low cost, clean, nice staff Cons: routine care only - not an emergency clinic more

awful 3/10/2009

My dog has been going here for a few years for his shots with no complaints until this last Friday 3/6/09 my dog had got into Lysol so i called right away i was told just to give him kaopectate and he didn't need to be seen i thought that seemed weird since my dog just got into a poison so i ran to the store and got it ,well a little while later i noticed my dog had got it into his eye so i flushed it and call them back well i just got told to flush it again after i told her i already did and his eye is bad hes not opening she just told me again to flush it so i was irritated well later on my dog still had the same problem with his eye so my gut told me to take him in somewhere so i brought him to the er which is much more expensive than the vet. i was told that it was a good thing i did because he would have lost his eye. and he was very dehydrated he was giving medicines for the drinking it and eye creams with a cone for his eyes. so thanks to this clinic my dog would have lost a eye more

Quality Care with 1 great doc, Affordable Prices, but office is inefficent 6/17/2007

Sylvan Animal Clinic is part of Faxon Animal Rescue League of Greater Fall River, Massachusetts. They run a "wellness clinic" where they do yearly checkups, shots, spays and neuter surgeries and they sell flea and tick products as well as Heartworm medications. Dr. Steve is the best vet in this clinic (they only have 2 vets there at this time I think) and the costs are very reasonable and affordable. My pets always get great care from the vet assistants and the doctor. My only complaint is that they do not seem to be "with the times". They double book appointments so the waiting time when you get there is unreasonably long, even as long as ONE HOUR PAST MY APPOINTMENT TIME. Then, the poor office staff is always rushing around filling out paperwork when there are computers on the desk which obviously are not utilized efficiently. They are awfully under staffed and if you forget when your appointment is and you call them to find out when your appointment is, you may or may not be more
