I did NOT have a great experience with Sweet Memories. I found them through an online search and decided to give them a try. The cake was for my birthday. I recognized the women that worked there for tv and their pictures. Not once did anyone say hello. The bakery up front is about the size of a living room. They pretended as if they were in a private office. They definitely need to work on customer service! If you are recognizable, people will want to meet you or at least say hello -probably complement you. They did not allow the opportunity. Very dry, unfriendly atmosphere.
I went in and met with the girl that worked the front counter. (She was okay.)
We went through the ideas I had for my birthday and she drew it out on paper, wrote details etc and it was a done deal. I paid for the cake 3 1/2 weeks in advance and left feeling positive. 2 weeks later I get a phone call telling me that the day I wanted to pick up my cake they would be closed. The party was on a Friday and they were to be closed that Thursday and Friday. They suggested I pick the cake up on Wednesday. I really wish they would have told me that in the beginning. I honestly would have canceled my order instead of having to keep my cake in the refrigerator for 3 days until my party. I chose to pick it up (since I had already paid for the cake).
I went to get it and the cake was NOT as I visioned or what was on the order form. I specified the color of the cake and it was WRONG and the design of the cake was WRONG. I would think bakers would know the difference between pink and purple, Two very different colors. I was not pleased and did not have the energy the make a fuss so I left with the cake.
I got to my home, pulled th cake all the way out of the box and it was even worse. The quality of work was terrible! I thought they were professionals! Harris Teeter could have done a better job! That was it! I gave them a call and explained everything. I should have pulled the cake all the way out of the box instead of them just showing me the top of the cake.
When I returned I spoke with the smaller shorter baker with the medium length brown hair and she tried to fix the design a little more to my desire. She was not happy and even had an attitude. She made it about 20% better but 80% of the cake could not be changed, it was too late. They were about to close for days and could not make another cake, which would have fixed the problem, since the color of the icing was the #1 thing wrong. (My birthday scheme was purple not pink!)
I do not recommend this business. I will not refer them to my friends or co-workers. They should really get a reality check and not seem so arrogant. They are not celebrities but let me give you an example. It was as if I met someone I saw on tv, who was so nice and seemed great on their show, then in person they are rude and unpleasant. Kinda makes you wish you would have never met them and just kept the image of their character in your mind instead of meeting the real person.
