Swagat Fine Indian Cuisine

If this is the one in Zona Rosa, located across from the comedy club, you will have a very good dining experience. The food is very similar to what you would find at India Palace in Overland Park also, with the convenience of buffet dining. Never a bad dish, the service is always pleasant and the decor in the restaurant is pleasant enough. A great place to visit when you're shopping in Zona Rosa. more

I've been to many Indian restaurants. It's hard to find one that really stands out, but Swagat is one of them. I took my sister and my niece or their first Indian food experience. They were very impressed with the food, as was I. Everything we tried was excellent. But beyond that, the service was outstanding. We arrived as they opened. And each time they brought something out that we didn't have a chance to grab, they came by the table to see if we wanted any. We basically ate the buffet without getting up! They were also very attentive to my 2 yr old niece, which was a nice thing to do. I don't live in KC, but I will try to visit Swagat when I visit as often as I can. Good service, decent food. Ist time there, took forever just to find the place in Zona Rosa. Not bad, avg. tikka-masala (dark-meat). Buffet seemed a bit small to me. Priced a bit higher after drink as well.\r Great Service though. Not bad more

Wonderful...the best in town, wonderful flavors and certainly the authenic taste I was seeking. They can truly claim that they are a true Indian restaurant. Enjoy things a little spicy? Try the cuury but ask about how spicy to get it. Pros: Great Flavors more

This was the first Indian restaurant I ever tried. I am still not an expert on Indian food; however, I would say that Swagat was decent but not the best. I always came here for the lunch buffet and the buffet was rather small, even on the weekends -- usually about three meat dishes and a few vegetable dishes, along with naan and fried appetizers. Most people would tell you that all of the dishes were very mild; however, I cannot handle spicy food and I did have to tone down a few of the dishes with raita (yogurt sauce). My husband really liked the chai tea that was included on the buffet.\r \r The service was always good. It also tended to get busy on Sunday afternoon as people came there after church.\r \r We have not eaten here in a while since we no longer live the area, but overall it's decent. It's worth a try if you can't find any other Indian restaurants in the area or if you prefer your Indian food very mild. (However, you can order off the menu if you want it spicier!) more

FABULOUS!!! As of April 11, 2008 my wife and I have tried every Indian restaurant in Kansas City, and Swagat is far and away our favorite - in fact, we love it so much we now go at least once a week. The food is excellent, always fresh and perfectly seasoned, and we are always treated like royalty - incredible service. The vegetable korma (and shrimp korma) are particular favorites, and the tandoori chicken fresh right out of the oven is to die for. Ever tried cabbage masala? Unbelievably good, though not on the menu - they need some notice for this one. Of course the staple chicken tikka masala is marvelous. This is in my opinion the best Indian in Kansas City. The staff is extremely polite and always willing to accomodate your needs. Swagat has also the most variety out of all of the resturants in the area. They are not afraid to take a higher-end dish and throw it onto the buffet (an example would be their Bombay Chicken). Tea is very delicious and the flavors really pop out on their food. This is especially true of the Tandori chicken and chicken korma. This place is really out of the way if you live in the south of the metro, but definately worth the trip. The resturant is also newly remodeled and the ambience is extraordinary to say the least.
