Great Sushi Fusion Restaurant 1/18/2009

The Sushi Zone has great food, ambiance, and prices are okay. It is not for the sushi purist but if you are looking for something a bit different from your regular routine, I'm sure that you could find something off of their diverse menu selection. I, personally am a soju drinker over sake but highly recommend their milky ""House Sake."" A friend said it reminded her of a Pina Colada. Note - Friday and Saturday are their busiest nights, get there between 6pm - 7pm if you don't want to risk having to wait a bit for a table. In between the sushi bar and the tables, total capacity is between 45 - 50 people. All pau, aloha fo' now! Pros: Variety Cons: Prices are okay, a bit cramped when crowded more

Freshest fish in OC, unbeatable prices and great customer service 8/20/2007

I am not a big fan of sushi - usually I go to a sushi restaurant just because my husband has been deprived of it for weeks. However, Sushi Zone is an exception - it is the only restaurant I'll go to and eat Japanese food without complaining, because the food and service is so good.\r \r I guess surprisingly, everyone gets their sushi from different suppliers because this one has fish that is more fresh than any of the others (Kitayama included) in Orange County. We are lucky that it is not as crowded because of the obscure location (across the street from the Lexus dealership in MV, in a small strip mall and very easy to miss). \r \r Usually, in places like these in this price range, they hire non-experts to do the ""labor"" of creating sushi, but here the owner (Alex) is the head chef himself, usually supported by one or two sous types. Thus the fish is always fresh, the food is always artfully prepared (he also makes his own fusion creations, sometimes french/japanese comparable to Ikko retaurant) and the service is always excellent. In addition, I think this is the only sushi place in this price range where when you order a sushi combination lunch or dinner, the tamago (egg) and other non-sushi varieties are included as part of the piece-count, but each piece is actually sushi.\r \r Big city quality food with local suburb hospitality - definitely on my OC list.\r \r Pros: Freshest fish, artful creations, great customer service Cons: Low profile (but works to our advantage) more

Great sushi 11/25/2003

I have been going to Shomei ever since they opened in November 2002. I was impressed by the high quality of their food, from the raw fish used in the sushi and sashimi to the white rice. It's too bad they are tucked away in a strip mall because I think a lot of people have missed this great little sushi place. I always bring out of town visitors to Shomei. I am somewhat of a sushi purist so I prefer just plain sashimi, but I have also tried some of the specialties like the spider roll and they are delicious. I also like the dinner combos because you get a little bit of everything. It's not too loud and if you listen carefully you can hear Japanese pop music in the background. Two thumbs up! It's not cheap but the prices are reasonable for what you are getting. Pros: Clean, Quality sushi more
