2009 Jan 10: Wen to Sushi Wa for lunch based on reviews here. I must say, I was disappointed. As you enter the restaurant you are greeted with a nice decor and ""Irasshaimase!"" which, in Japanese, means welcome. However, that is the extent of the Japanese spoken here. As I tried to communicate, in Japanese, I am greeted by english questions. In fact, I think every staffer here spoke Korean.\r
\r
I ordered the lunch special, which the menu says, consists of 5 pieces of sushi (Tuna, white tuna, albacore, shrimp, and salmon) and a choice of rolls, and miso soup. I chose California roll. I also had 1 side order of hamachi. The lunch special 5 pieces was exactly 5 pieces, not 5 pairs as is usually the case in sushi restaurants. The hamachi came out as a pair.\r
\r
The taste was awful. The fish seemed to be fresh, but everything else was mediocre at best.\r
\r
Fish - quality was good (I give 3 out of 5), but the cut was too big, and you could tell it was cut by\r
a dull knife by an inexperienced sushi chef. I doubt that these chefs here have had formal training as a\r
sushi chef.\r
\r
Miso Soup - tofu and seaweed with red miso. This was actually pretty good (4 out of 5 stars).\r
\r
Rice - The rice of the sushi was really bad (0 stars out of 5). It was way over cooked and mushy, no taste of vinegar whatsoever, and it was very poorly formed. Also, they do not put any wasabi on the sushi which is the norm. In authentic sushi restaurants, wasabi is standard on sushi and one must explicitly as for ""sabi-nuki"" if you don't want wasabi on your sushi.\r
\r
California Roll - bad (1 out of 5 stars) - Imitation crab is used and is very bland in taste. Possibly the worst\r
California Roll I have ever had.\r
\r
All in all, I would not recommend this place to any authentic sushi lovers. All I can say is that\r
this is an Imitation Sushi joint.
