OVER PRICED and underwhelmed 4/30/2011

We heard good things about Sakana. We heard it was created by the folks who created Kotta, another sushi place in Frisco. Kotta was decent, so we thought Sakana would be awesome. WRONG. They are extremely overpriced, the place is small and it has no atmosphere whatsoever -- plus it had pretty much the same menu as Kotta. more

Best Sushi in Texas! 6/5/2008

Absolutely the best Sushi you can find. Super fresh with extremely large portions. Buy far the most friendly place in town. You are always welcomed upon arrival and thanked when leaving. Great staff all with great personalities. I highly recommend Sushi Sakana and if you are new or a seasoned pro, this place is for you! Enjoy! Pros: Freshest and best tasting around! Cons: need a larger stomach! more

LOVE LOVE LOVE SUSHI SAKANA! 5/6/2008

My husband introduced me to sushi at this restraunt about six months ago. They were great in explaining everything to me and making recommendations. I have introduced at least six friends to Sakana and they all love it. I have tried sushi other places and can not find anything compared to this restraunt. My husband actually threw my brithday party for me their. We had 18 people in the party so it was tight but everyone enjoyed the sushi. My favorite: Philidelphia roll, Ebi Ebi, Spicy Crunch Roll wiht Shrimp! I love the friendly feel, they are always happy to serve you and the overall ambiance is great! Pros: incredible food, great atmosphere, good price Cons: service can be slow if they are busy more

Quite a Surprise! 6/29/2007

I'm not an avid sushi eater, and eat it around 1 time per month at most. I have started to aquire a stronger taste for it the past 6 months tho. I live close to Sushi Sakana and thought it might be fun to try it out. We had 5 people in our party, and were seated immediately on a Friday night around 7pm. Our party would have to be considered sushi novices other than myself and one other person. The restaurant is very small, crammed between a Star Bucks, and another store. I was impressed by how clean it was inside and the decor was nice, but not overdone. Typical Japanese upscale decor I guess you might call it. The sushi bar itself is small, but was full of patrons. One guy was there when we came in, and when we left was still sitting there popping sushi in his mouth! I ordered the Gekkeikan saki hot and we ordered both the shrimp and vegetable tempura as appetizers. The tempura was excellent in that it came nice and hot with a tasty light batter. The dipping sauce was the best I've tasted so far. I would order the Gekkeikan again. We had the Spicy Crunch roll, Ebi Ebi, Sunset, Eel, and Shrimp Tempura rolls. These are all relatively conservative choices I realize, but I didn't want to get too crazy with sushi beginners at the table. Next time we'll try the more adventurous offerings like the Ahi Tower!! The Eel roll and shrimp tempura rolls were typical fare, but the specialty rolls brought sushi to a new level for me. Of the 3 specialty rolls, all were very fresh, delicious, and had a great presentation. Did I mention they were delicious!? Ok, sorry. I couldn't decide which I liked more. Everyone just LOVED the sushi and it disappeared FAST!! For desert we had the Ice cream roll which is a fun novelty. Everyone was raving about this place as we left. 4.8 stars out of 5!! Friendly service was just a tad slow bringing the bill. If I had drunk more I probably wouldn't have noticed. Can't wait to go back. Pros: Great Food, excellent specialty rolls and Tempura! Cons: Limited seating and the service seemed just a bit slow to me. more

Freshest sushi with the best service HANDS DOWN! 6/14/2007

From the minute you walk in with a traditional greeting from Chang, owner of Sushi Sakana, you get great food and great service. This is the type of place that reminds you of Cheers. Chang and his wife get to know their customers while serving a great meal. The presentation is impeccable; the taste makes you want to savor each bite! Start with the miso soup and edamame. For your entree: For the eclectic taste buds I highly recommend the Caribbean Roll wrapped in rice paper and includes 5 different types of fish, but the touch of the tropic comes from the mango that pleases the mouth. For the sweet and spicy blend, I recommend the Ahi Tower or the New Spicy Crunch Roll. The Ahi Tower is made with spicy tuna, cucumber and other layers that delight the pallet (sp?). The Spicy Crunch Roll includes cooked shrimp that is topped with a sweet and spicy thick sauce. Finish off with three exotic flavors of ice cream. Pros: Fresh sushi every time Cons: Small venue-- usually don't have to wait, but they are starting to be popular more

Wonderful rolls and excellent service! 2/21/2007

I have never had a bad experience here! They have great food and some of the best service in the area. They may not be a huge place, but have packed a lot into those rolls. I also recommend the cucumber salad, very thinly sliced. more
