Tasty sushi and friendly service! 5/8/2010

I visited Seattle recently and had the luck to have lunch here one day. The ambiance has the essence of a typical strip mall establishment, but don't let that deter you from ordering some of the best sushi around. The food was appealing, tasted fresh, and was delightful. We had wonderful service and noticed that everyone working there was very friendly during our visit. The cost of the food was very reasonable - surprisingly so. You can't go wrong here. Pros: Fresh sushi, lots of choices Cons: strip mall ambiance more

What a crappy food place 12/18/2009

They should pay me to eat there. Crappy udon, crappy hot soup bowl. Pretty bad ambiance. I can taste all the bad quality ingredients in the dishes I ordered. Very unsatisfying experience. I don't write reviews at all, but I felt compelled to write this one because I went there since it's got 4 1/2. I say 1 star! Cons: Feeling very unsatisfied afterwards more

Forget these jerks. I've given them enough of my money. 7/9/2008

Forget this place. I've had enough. For the last year, since moving here, I was a VERY regular customer dropping at least $35+ every single time I've been there (I've only ever eaten at the sushi bar), and I've been there more times that I can remember. The sushi is OK. Sometimes it is good, not infrequently is it mediocre, and a couple of times it is has been gross. A couple of times I've gotten blatantly bloody pieces of fish, and some other times i've gotten very un-fresh, chewy pieces. While some rolls are petite and tight, some are awkwardly large and loose that they are unmanageable. A few times I've ordered pieces and they were prepared completely different ways each time. And on that note it's a very inconsistent place too. Sometimes you get the tea, miso, edamame, broccoli, etc. and sometimes the experience is incomplete with something left out. The service overall is sub-par, rarely great, often slow and sometimes bad. There's this one young kid there (one of the sons - it's a family place) that is an awesomely nice and polite kid (if you get him then service rocks!), but the rest of them are cold/slow/void. The older man running the show (at the sushi bar) is unbelievable. I won't bother going into the details of my many un-positive experiences I've had with him, but this last experience him was so absurd and so ridiculous that I am NEVER going back to this stupid place ever again (and it was the very first time that I ever brought somebody with me!). Though the prices don't destroy your wallet, the pieces definitely are overpriced for what they are and how uncreatively they are composed (can we try NOT putting crab everywhere?). And, they aren't even Japanese either (they are Korean or something). Maybe *not* sitting at the bar is a better experience, but if you truly know your sushi this place is nothing special. Combine that with the bad service and you're better off going to someplace that appreciates your patronage. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service more

Oustanding Sushi, Service needs work 4/15/2008

I'd recommend the sushi-sashimi combo, the service is generally not so good but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Pros: Excellent Sushi Cons: Average Service more

Decent sushi 3/30/2008

Been there a few times, the sushi's always pretty good, the service is average. Our chicken katsu wasn't cooked all the way through but it was just one part. We go there when we want sushi and never leave disappointed. I've never had a problem with cleanliness there, it seems like they wipe everything down thoroughly. Pros: Parking, near my house, never had to wait more

Always Friendly, well priced, fresh sushi- GREAT SPECIALS 7/12/2007

Not sure why there was a bad rating on this restaurant- my family loves to go there, particularly for birthdays. It's well priced, so we don't feel bad ordering tons of food. their hot rolls and their special rolls are fabulous and the sushi/sashimi is always fresh and well prepared. I have definitely seen better presentation, but it is still up there in quality. Pros: Great food, reasonable cost Cons: they close too early more

pure awesomeness 5/23/2007

we've been enjoying sushi moto for three years now. while the service can be a little erratic, and you don't always get individual plates for the sushi, the food more than makes up. best of all, you get a series of miso soup and small servings of edamame and salad as free appetizers. you get the sushi experience for far less than other places of comparable quality. more

totally disappointed 2/16/2007

The service was fast, but rude!! My wife got a tea cup with a lip stick mark still on the edge of the cup!! It's very bad hygiene problem. When we asked for an extra bowl, the waitress brought us a wet bowl with some water still in the bowl!! The sushi and sashimi is average, and the Udon was very very bad!!!! It's Japanese restaurant but owned by Korean so you won't have the real Japanese food there. more

I love Sushi Moto 11/20/2006

I've been going to Sushi Moto for over 5 years now and still love it. The food is great and you are always greeted by all the staff when you walk in. I recommend it for a casual Japanese dining experience. Pros: Great Food & Prices more

Best sushi around and reasonably priced. 9/24/2006

This is the best sushi restaurant I've been to in the Seattle area. The sushi is always great and comes with soy beans, miso soup, and more. Two people can get their fill for less than $25. Pros: Great sushi and great price. Cons: Atmosphere isn't superb and service quality can vary. more

Watch a master work 7/9/2006

Sushi Moto has wonderfully fresh food, expertly prepared by the chef. He will often recommend items not on the board if asked. The service is eager, if not completely on top of things, but I'm always impressed by the quality of the food.\r \r A nice addition are the little freebies: miso and a vegetable side (and sometimes a small portion of salad), tempura-fried shrimp heads with an order of amaebi, little treats from the chef when you sit at the bar. Also a joy is watching the chef work: the deft movements of his knife, the meticulous care he takes to keep his work area sanitary, and the cute dynamic between him and his wife (who seems relegated to producing rolls) as they scurry around building plates of food to send out to the tables.\r \r Yeah, it's in Edmonds, and yeah, it's shut every Tuesday, and yeah, it's in Edmonds. But it's worth the hoof. If you need another reason to get up there, check out the nearby 99 Ranch Market--although if you try to go after dinner, you're going to be too stuffed to want to shop for groceries. Pros: Very fresh, very good food. Neat little extras. Great atmosphere. Cons: Wait staff seems oddly puzzled at times. Closed on Tuesday. more

Definitely worth the drive to Edmonds 7/9/2006

When we moved from Edmonds to Fremont, our biggest concern was ""Where will we find sushi as good at Sushi Moto?""\r \r Sitting at the bar is the way to go, but even from the tables it's a wonderful experience. The servers bring a course of miso soup and then seasonal appetizers - I always hope for the steamed broccoli in sesame dressing. Don't bother getting anything but the sushi - the hirame is always wonderful, and the handrolls are excellent. \r \r If you're the adventerous sort, ask the chef to recommend something - often he has delicacies which are not listed on the menu. Pros: Great value, excellent preparation, good for kids Cons: A bit of a drive, closed every Tuesday more

Best Sushi in the North End 10/22/2005

Sushi moto is a fabulous find in the north end. I almost hate to say how fantastic it is for fear of it becoming ""found"" and over crowded. The hamachi is butter smooth and the spicy tuna roll keeps me up at night wanting more. Peter the chef will greet you by name if your a regular and sometimes gives you special treats if you sit at the bar...Ive been all over Seattle and the North End trying sushi, and so far this is the best place to go. more
