Yoshi, who also owns Sushi Yoshi in Peachtree City, began his work in Atlanta at the well-respected Hachi Gushi on Windy Hill In Cobb County. Yoshi ventured out on his own in 1997 to open his own restaurant at Peachtree Industrial & Winters Chapel next door to the Tomato Japanese grocery store. He did very well there and earned everyone?s respect. He did so well that he moved over to his current and newly renovated location at Spalding and Holcomb Bridge in Norcross/Dunwoody.
The food is excellent. The sushi servings are about triple the size of other sushi bars. He serves Toro as long as a man?s hand! It takes three mouthfuls for one piece. The Uni is sweet, and he will warn you when it is not. Yoshi values and respects his customers.
There is also a full menu of authentic food that you would find anywhere in Japan, including Soba/Udon Noodle soups, Yakitoris, steaks, tempura, and of course a full range of very fresh sushi.
The wine list offers top shelf sake's such as Otokoyama and of course they have all the beers.
In a time when most sushi bars are starting to look like nightclubs, servers wearing black t-shirts, and dance music blaring while you pick from a curtailed list of basic Japanese food, it is nice to visit a traditional sushi bar with servers in Kimono's, actual Japanese people working in the restaurant, and on many nights, the crowd is also mostly Japanese.
95% of the time, the service has been excellent. The other 5% was owing to some misunderstanding, new hires in training, or some other forgivable malfunction. I really cannot imagine what happened to other reviewer. If her spelling is any indication, perhaps the miscommunication began on her side. ;-)
Yoshi does his best to provide the freshest seafood in the Atlanta area. I drive 44 miles round trip from downtown Atlanta to enjoy his efforts. Friends always want to return again and again. Need I say more?
