This restaurant is one of the classic ""neighborhood treasures"" that the locals will want to take their friends to.
Sushi Mania is a small restaurant in a strip mall. Don't let the exterior fool you, though. The interior decor is modest and simple; everything is spotlessly clean. In a restaurant which serves food in the raw, this is a critical element.
The food was first-rate. Good udon with the noodles tender without being too soft; a bento-style dinner with generous portions plus a substantial sushi tray; a la carte sushi with some of my favorites as a ""test"". All were excellent.
The service was particularly outstanding. A genuinely-friendly waitress was attentive and helpful with suggestions regarding the house specialties. The food arrived quickly and was presented with the visual artfulness that good Japanese restaurants take pride in. The hot dishes were piping hot without being scalding, the sake was warmed in a hot stone decanter instead of a microwave, and foods which were best served cold were nicely chilled. Even though we arrived just before closing, the staff was in no hurry to shoo people out, and there was no time-pressure.
A first-rate experience. As sushi restaurants are wont to be, it was a little pricey (sixty dollars for two people, not including a well-deserved large tip), but sushi is a special thing. And this is a special place to enjoy it in.
I will be back, and I will bring more friends.
Pros: High-quality food, generous portions, great service
Cons: A little spendy
