overrated sushi 3/16/2006

Ever since I've been in the Bay Area, I heard people rave about Sushi House...It's good but I don't really think its worth the long lines. The pricing isn't too shabby, but you don't really get that much at the same time. You should definately expect to wait over an hour if you're going to lunch or dinner. Your best bet is to go during non peak hours like 3pm or something...I recommend the Lion King Roll or the Bay Scallop Roll. more

Best buy on price/quality scale 9/6/2005

In general, the more you pay for sushi, the better the quality, and the less you pay, the lower the quality. So on a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (high), if price is a 10, usually quality is a 10 as well, or if price is only a 5, then quality is only a 5, etc. Well, not at Sushi House. Prices here are about a 4-5 in the world of bay area sushi restaurants, but the quality is about a 8-9. Sushi House is so popular they recently relocated to a much larger restaurant space in the same shopping center. Be prepared to wait a long time. But the food is definitely worth the wait. Parking is easy to find in the South Shore Shopping Center. more

Overrated and SLOW 8/26/2005

You would think that the fact that sushi house is always crowded would mean that it's good. Um. No. Not only is the sushi mediocre but the wait even for take out is ridiculous. Even if you call in your order it can take an hour before it's ready for pickup. In an hour you could cross the bridge and have fantastic sushi from any number of great places in San Francisco. more

Food is BLAH, okay to eat if you have limited taste buds 8/15/2005

First, I do not know why this place is packed sometimes. There are not enough people working. You have to show up and put your name on a list. Then they will call your name. The food is okay, not the best I ever had. Decent at best. The sevice here is very flaky. If you want anything, you better ask for it from the begining. The kitchen is poorly organized. I had 5 people at my table and we each got our food at different times in 10 minute increments. My sister who does not like calarmari ask them not to give it to her, when her dished arrived, it had plenty of it. The udon noodles were sour. The chicken katmatzu was dry as chalk. I could forgive flaky service but not nasty food. It took about 20 minutes to get our bill when we wanted it. The food is inconsistant. Horrible dining experience. I don't know why some people will wait an hour or more just to eat and endure terrible food and service. Maybe these are people who always tip 15% no matter how rude the waiter/waitress treats them. There are better sushi places in the Bay Area. *AVOID AT ALL COSTS* more

Average sushi place 8/11/2005

Sushi House in Alameda is pretty average. The price isn't exactly cheap so it really isn't anything special. The sashimi there is not that fresh and the sushi is not made very well. The place is old and it feels very dirty. They did try to make the place look better with fancy japanese style decorations but it is still obvious that this place is old. more

Yummy Sushi 8/11/2005

Located on the corner of Park Street and Shoreline Drive in the South Shore Shopping Center in Alameda, Sushi House is one of the best sushi deals in the Bay Area. Great food, great portions, and great prices; you can't beat that! Now with a bigger and better location, you no longer have to wait over an hour to get a table. You can enjoy your sushi while enjoying views of the SF Bay. Take-out orders also available. more

Sushi House 8/10/2005

This is by far the best Japanese restaurant I have ever dined in. It has a spectacular environment where you can take your family, date, or friends to. You can dine outside with your date; and because you are still confined within glass walls, you can enjoy the beautiful nighttime ambience and stay warm at the same time! Also, their scallop roll is simply orgasmic. I have never tasted any Japanese item up to its par. However, this wonderful dish comes with a cost: a generally 1 hour wait before seating. Albeit the wait, it is extremely worth every minute of your boredom. It is that good! more

best sushi in east bay 8/4/2005

great sushi, great view(next to the beach), great price, large quantity(you will be stuffed when you leave), average service,(although I feel that they are trying, and it has gotten a little better). the only thing I had is the LINE!!! It is LONG!!! give yourself at least 45 minutes when you go eat dinner there during weekdays, and even longer during weekend. so try to go there before 5pm. more

great food, terrible service 7/7/2005

This restaurant has really good sushi and the portions are huge too, so you'll never walk out feeling hungry like other sushi places. The the best thing about the menu is that under each creative name, there is pictures of the food so you can get a very good idea of what each food looks like. The price is good. But since business is great, the place is alway packed, so service is terrible, expect to wait long especially on weekends. more
