YUCK 12/2/2007

I have never written a review, but then again no restaurant has ever been bad enough to motivate me to register on this website, expose myself to spam and write a review to warn others. First, I had nothing but high expectations for this restaurant when I heard ""Susanna Foo"" stamped to it. But, how incredibly disappointing. The service AND food are just bad. It's one thing when service is bad and the food is good. But, when it's both, why even bother unless they're giving it out for free? The service is so SLOW. When the entrees FINALLY arrived, one was missing. Since the waiter was no help, I finally decided to talk to the manager when I noticed the sauce in our Ma Pao Tofu dish starting to separate. The manager moved quickly, but just as he moved into action, the waiter appeared with the missing dish. So, the manager walked away, never to be seen again. As the waiter appeared with the dish, not one apology or explanation for what had happened even though it was obvious that the kitchen had just forgotten. The waiter wasn't even embarrassed by the mistake. So, as my friends finally began eating their cold dishes, we realized that the food had not been worth waiting for. The vegetables in the Vietnamese Filet Mignon were overcooked and mushy, the Ma Pao Tofu was tasteless and the Mandarin Crispy Shrimp was overcooked and not crispy. My late Sesame Chicken was also tasteless. It also arrived without rice, so I had to flag down the waiter again. The only dish that wasn't bad was the Spicy Mongolian Lamb. I was so surprised by how bad the food was. Was I eating at a Chuckie Cheese? The worse part of the experience, was that no one, not even the manager, ever apolgized to us. A simple apology would have been nice. There are so many restaurants in Philly, don't go to Susanna Foo's. Cons: Slow and Uncaring Service; Bad Food more

Creative and fresh food, rough service, LOUD! 11/4/2007

Ambience: Previous reviews are accurate. If you want a quiet night out, don't go here. Ultra-modern decor. We actually found it to be louder than Nectar. (It was a Sat. night.) We had a hard time hearing our waiter and hearing each other. Techno beats became annoying by the end of the meal.\r Service: This was definitely the weak part of the experience. We had to wait 15 minutes even though we had a reservation. We were taken to the table, and we had to wait a few seconds for our table to be cleaned up. There was nowhere to hang up our coats. Our table was against a waist high railing. Our waiter took our order from the other side of the railing. He also handed our dishes over the railing. I had to clear the plate myself to make room for it, and the plate was hot. We barely touched on of the dishes because we ordered to much food. They cleared the full plate, and never even asked us if we wanted to take it home. The wine glasses they served us wine in were cheap, and were the wrong type of glass for the wine that we ordered.\r \r Food: This was the strongest part of the experience. I would disagree with the previous reviewer; we thought the food was better than Margaret Kuo's. The Hot and Sour soup was similar to a family style restaurant, but the vegetables tasted fresher. I had a salad with fried goat cheese, beets and candied walnuts. The salad was outstanding. We ordered many of the creative dumplings. We found the dumplings to be tasty, though my wife thought they were a bit more greasy than they needed to be. The scallops were perfectly prepared. I ordered tea-smoked duck over broccoli rabe with butternut squash and a port reduction. The duck was lean, tender and smoky. It played off of the bitterness of the broccoli rabe and the sweetness of the squash, though the sauce was a bit lost in the mix. Though the food may not be up to the standard of the downtown Susanna Foo, we were still pleased. Next time, we will bring ear plugs. Pros: Freshness, food quality Cons: Service more

Not as good as I expected... 10/24/2007

I ate here once and was disappointed. I should try it again, but I won't. I expected exceptional asian cuisine but got something I could have ordered from a take-out Chinese restaurant. If you are looking for a true asian delight, go to Yangming (Bryn Mawr) or Margaret Kuo's (Wayne) instead. Pros: if Fleming's or Glenmorgan is busy, it is right next door. Cons: average asian cuisine more

Lovley place, but not that exceptional. 4/30/2007

I sometimes wonder why I seem to be the only one who is not overwhelmed by these new places.\r Susanna Foo is not bad, but it;'s all about making yourself feeling chic and important, - as are nearly all these new places. Dark setting, amber lighting, highly textural walls are all veryt lovely - but you can't eat them. The food here is good but certainly not exceptional. It's also expensive when you compare it to what you can find in the better places in Chinatown.\r But this place has liquor - a major necessity on the Main Line. It also appeals to the newer clientele now permeating the Main Line area. These folks need to feel that they have made it and that they have chosen not only the ""Best"" home,. the ""best"" school and the ""best"" car but that they eat at the ""best"" restaurants.\r One thing that Foo has over Nectar is that your eardrums aren't broken while you're trying to eat. Pros: Nice food, lovely setting Cons: It's another wanna be restaurant for people who need to feel important and know nothing about food. more

Susie Foo hits the Burbs 3/7/2007

Very good food, service needs a bit of polish. Interior is OK , bar kinda cold. Good for families and children. Prices are very affordable. Cant make it downtown stop into Radnor. Susie was there both times I was there.\r \r Pros: Fopd . Location Cons: Service more
