Authentic Lebanese Home Cooking 5/6/2009

We have now been several times to three very good Lebanese restaurants on 2nd street, Open Sesame, Magic Lamp, and Sunnin, however, Sunnin is by far the best of the three. In addition to the usual Lebanese restaurant fare of kebabs, hommos, falafel etc. , they have real home cooking, such as grape-leaves stuffed with meat, mallow stew, kibby tray-style, kibby in yogurt sauce, and many more. They also have by far the best tabbouleh, and since that is the national Lebanese dish, it puts them clearly above all the others. Last but not least, their fried cauliflower dish produces cauliflowers that are crispy on the outside and soft inside, and lots and lots of them, accompanied by taratoor, a sauce made with tahini, lemon juice and garlic. Two sisters run the restaurant: Dolly and Nicole. Kudos to both. Pros: Best Cauliflowers of all Lebanese Restaurants more

WORST LEBANESE FOOD IN THE WORLD. JOKERS. 4/23/2008

THESE OWNERS SHOULD CLOSE DOWN AND SPARE US THE DISGRACE THEY HAVE BROUGHT TO LEBANESE FOOD. \r \r We ate their once and will never go back. Their food is bland. They don't use the proper spices, or even proper amounts of spices. They do not include pickled mikti (mediterranean pickles) which is a critical ingredient in shawarma. Their sandwiches are dry and tasteless.\r \r Try Open Sesame or even Magic Lamp. But, stay clear away from this place. Pros: NOTHING Cons: FOOD IS HORRIBLE, AMBIANCE IS A JOKE, SERVICE IS LIKE A BUS STOP. more

Perfect portions and prices to try almost everything 10/25/2007

I've been here several times and each time has been great. From large groups to a part of 2, I've never had any problems. The food is fast, delicious and flavorful. The servers really knows their stuff, if you have an inkling for a certain flavor, let them recommend something ~ they always seem right. If you want to try a bunch of things and not have a set entree, then this would be great. I love ordering a bunch of their appies and just sampling all the different foods and savoring the variety of flavors. The place is very small and quaint so the wait can be a bit long, but it would be the same everywhere else too. Pros: Prices, appie portions Cons: longer wait for larger groups more

2nd street has better dining options 6/1/2007

So I went to Sunnin today with 4 of my wonderful coworkers. Collectively, we had the chicken kabob sandwich, beef and chicken shawarma plates, cabbage salad, warak enab (grape leaves), and the moujadarah (pureed lentil cooked with rice, beans, and onions). We all felt the food was subpar to be honest. We must have waited almost an hour to get our food which we thought was a bit much. While the experience wasn't awful by any means, I don't believe any of us will return here again. Open Sesame is a better choice. \r \r And P.S. I'd recommend a kabob (tawook) meat choice over shawarma. Better quality. Pros: Hummus and pita tasty, chicken kabob sandwich decent Cons: Overpriced for value, looong wait, pungent garlic breath more

Great Lebanese food in Long Beach 5/30/2007

Just as Westwood location, food is well prepared and offers great value. Long Beach location is more spacious and has a more attractive setting. Great place to grab dinner during the week with friends or family. Very attentive staff. Seating is a bit closed in, so not ideal for romantic or quiet conversations. Have been back several times in the past year. Pros: fast service, great food, nice location Cons: gets crowded quickly on weekend more
