Always the Best 11/16/2009

We are always amazed at how beautiful this resort is a Christmas. I wish we could go this year. We have a February trip planned though. The Sawtooth Mountains from the top of Baldy have made a permanent imprint on my mind. Breathtaking. That is, if you are a good enough skier to make it up to the top and down again. This is an advanced mountain. Greens are Blues, Blues are Blacks and Blacks are double Black Diamond. If you can ski this mountain, you can ski anywhere. The Pioneer in down town Ketchum is our favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is extremely casual western and everyone wears their apres ski, no time to change if you want a good table. To the complaint that it is hard to get here has an upside. If you end up at Sun Valley, you have probably planned it to the nines. That leads to a pretty well behaved clientele. Serious skiers, not weekend partiers is the order of the day in Sun Valley. I've skiied everywhere in Colorado and have no desire to ever go back. Sun Valley has spoiled me. Its the absolute best. Pros: Baldy, Dining, Upscale Clientele more

Sun Valley Gold 11/13/2002

Yes, it's hard to get to,sometimes flights are rerouted, but when you have arrived Sun Valley is the best skiing in the world. From high speed cruzing on Warmsprings to lunching atop Seattle Ridge there is none better. Most people ski from 10 t0 2, Why because the high speed quads, which are everywhere give you more skiing in 3 or 4 hours than anyplace in the world. Even during the hollidays. It's a 10 across the board. Remeber, no body said skiing was inexpensive. Pros: few skiers, great restaurants Cons: expensive, expensive more

Best Place on Earth 11/12/2002

I lived in Sun Valley for one season after college. It is a great ski town! However, whomever wrote the discription of Sun Valley at city search is an idiot! Sun Valley is not a quote "reasonably" priced town. It is tiny and exclusive and gorgeous, but reasonably priced; no. This is a luxry vaca spot not a chaep get away! Also it is Mt. Baldy not Bald Mountain and Dollar is a few miles away so do not be mislead but think you can drop the beginers and meet up with them later! more

Sun Valley has a wonderful, small town feel with excellent skiing and snowboarding. Winter and Spring skiing are spectacular here. For a casual, yet fun and enjoyable experience, I would definetly recommend Sun Valley. more

WOW!! 10/31/2002

Truly the worlds finest ski resort !!! I've skiied everywhere (Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, BC, Europe) and there is nothing that can compare. The mountain is magnificant, the snow superb, the day lodges are unreal. It is no wonder all the stars have vacation homes in Sun Valley - Bruce Willis, Clint Eastwood, David Duval, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and of course Arnold to name a few. Sun Valley is very difficult and expensive to get to, but definetly worth the price. Pros: No lift lines, Amazing Food, Snow - always perfect Cons: difficult to get to more

  • The Scene
Located on the south side of Idaho's Saw Tooth Mountains--one of America's most beautiful yet unsung mountain ranges--this resort never quite realized its original aspiration of becoming the country's preeminent ski Mecca. In the long run, that's probably been a good thing, because it's kept Sun Valley less crowded and more reasonably priced than the nation's other top-tier ski areas.

    The Slopes
Sun Valley is somewhat unique in the skiing world in that it offers excellent skiing for experts and beginners alike. The resort consists of two mountains, Bald and Dollar. Dollar caters to beginners, while Bald offers plenty of intermediate skiing and advanced runs that are as challenging as any in America. This is a nice setup for both novices and experts because neither group has to worry about getting in the other's way.
