A case where bad service ruined the experience 2/14/2010

We were two families, and we had one order of a chicken dish and three orders of all-you-can-eat sushi. Wife accidentally spilled a glass of water, and the waitress was visibly upset, as if we were troublemakers. From that point on, it went downhill. Waitress never came back with another glass of water until we asked for one 30 minutes later. She saw my son take a sip of my miso soup, and said he couldn't have any because it was part of the all-you-can-eat sushi meal. I can understand if I was handing out sushi to everyone at the table, but the miso soup that never gets refilled? Informed the owner of the horrible service, but he didn't seem overly empathetic. Pros: Sushi was ok, bathroom was clean Cons: Service was horrible more

Good fresh sushi, ok service. 1/9/2009

This place has the all you can eat sushi buffet all day Friday, Sunday, and one other day that I can't remember, all for $20. After tip and tax my bill came out to around $26. Note that the location has changed. It is NOT near Legacy Village/Cedar Road. It is very close to Chagrin Boulevard. They start the all you can eat with a bowl of miso soup and a western style salad with some kind of Japanese ginger salad dressing. Both were delicious. The buffet is not really a buffet. You don't go up to a buffet stand and serve yourself. They give you a menu and you can order however much you want from that menu, all except for the more fancy "special" rolls, which you're limited to only 2 of. The special rolls were delicious and consisted of an entire sushi "log" for each. The unlimited ala carte items were fresh and delicious as well. Color me surprised getting fresh sushi in Ohio. They had salmon, fluke, red tuna, white tuna, roe, mackerel, and red snapper for the raw stuff. They also have a selection of cooked sushi such as clam, imitation crab, eel, and crispy salmon skin. They even have a vegetarian selection of veggies in/on sushi rolls. Like I said, the sushi was very good and very fresh. No fishy odor, the texture was right, and I didn't get sick afterwards even after eating about 50 pieces. The service was subpar. The wait staff were actually Chinese and the waitress I got never smiled and didn't do a good job of explaining how the all you can eat works. She just went through the motions of her job. There was a second waitress who seemed a lot more happy. I waited nearly 15-20 minutes for my order of special rolls to come out during lunchtime. The average wait for an order was probably between 5-10 minutes. This was NOT a quick lunch by any means. All they serve is sushi, no sashimi, so you're forced to eat the rice which is a cheap filler. If you don't finish your plate, you're charged extra on top of the $20. Pros: Fresh food, ambience, all you can eat Cons: Service, wait times, no sashimi more

Food=Good Service= HORRIBLE 11/28/2008

The food was great, the service was HORRENDOUS, me and my friends where ignored nearly the entire time and the waitress messed up our order and refused to compensate for it. I DO NOT recommend at all, the food might be good but it not worth it at all. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

If you like sushi... 2/14/2008

The food was great, we got the lunch special for maki rolls and it was very affordable. The service was fantastic, probably because we were the only ones there. Overall, I would highly recommend it. more

Do not expect great customer service 8/16/2007

I visited Sumo today. Food was good and delicious, but service was below average. My waitress looked like upset all the time. Overall, my rate for Sumo is just average. I think the owner should revalue its service. Pros: Food Cons: Service more
