My husband and I, being the green, first time homeowners that we are, nearly made the mistake of purchasing plants and trees from a big box store. Fortunately, some friendly man took pity upon us and stopped us before we started and recommended that we would be able to purchase much healthier, larger plants at a nursery.
We happened upon SummerWinds quite by accident; we went there because it was the only nursery we remembered seeing while driving about town. What happy chance!
We arrived and began browsing. Through internet research, we had pre-selected a few trees from which we would make our final choice. We found a very knowledgeable employee who was able to tell us the pros and cons of both trees we had selected, and knew the best growing conditions for both trees. Additionally, the nursery sells both 15 gallon and 45 gallon trees, which are about $100 different in price. The gentleman advised us that though he could sell us the larger tree, if we had the patience to wait, the smaller tree was actually a better investment and in the long run, would grow larger and healthier. This may be common knowledge to experienced landscapers, but we were very pleased to be informed.
The gentleman then proceeded to help us evaluate the conditions of our yard and helped us select several different flowering plants that would be ideal in our circumstances. We were impressed that no matter what plant we inquired about, he could provide extensive knowledge.
Along the way we happened upon another employee who was equally knowledgeable and helped us select additional plants.
Additionally, I had remembered a plant I had seen at the box store and asked him about it. Unfortunately, I could not recall the name. The first gentleman who helped me informed me that if I went home and called him with the name, he could tell me about that plant and if they had it or could order it. I promptly took him up on his offer and he was able to assist me. I went back later that day to purchase those plants. When I arrived, the gentleman who had assisted me that morning had gone home for the day and so a third person assisted me. Like the other 2, he had extensive knowledge in his field and advised me on how, when and where to plant the flowers, how to care for them, and how large they would grow. He also advised me that though his store offered a few items like trellises and pots, I would save money by finding those same items at a box store. His honesty was very much appreciated by this budget household.
The employees were consistently knowledgeable. The prices on plants were preferable to the box stores, because though the dollar amounts were comparable, the plants were healthier and larger Their selection was vast and all of their plants appeared consistently healthy. I highly recommend them!
