I walked into "Sully's" on Main St Charlestown to wait for some friends. I ordered a Guiness, which was poured into a sub-standard sized glass, was a few temperatures too warm and was half fizzle.
I honestly wondered whether she was trying to get rid of me. I was the only person in the bar, it was a Sunday night; its not like she was in a rush to get to other customers or expecting a big out-turn. Still, I was polite and told her I'd like a bloody mary rather than the Guiness she had poured. She gave me an astounded look, as if that was too much to ask.
Since I was not in the mood for warm Guiness, I offered to pay for the first and second drink. She only seemed to grow more impatient. At that point, after being (the only one) in the bar for close to 10 minutes, not having a decent drink, and honestly, have a bartender with dripping mascara giving me a hard time, I decided to simply walk out and never return.
If first impressions are anything, I'd say this is the dive bar for all dive bars: the owners are trying to squeeze as many beers out of the keg as possible with smaller glasses, they don't want to up the refrigeration and don't want to pay for better bartenders.
Pros: close to other good bars
Cons: poor selection, service, unwelcoming atmosphere
